Molote is a filled corn-based pastry usually served as an appetizer or snack from Mexican cuisine. It consists in a dough made from corn masa, sometimes blended with mashed potatoes, which is filled with different ingredients and fried in lard or oil. In some areas they are rolled into cigar-shapes or ovals, in others they are half-moons similar to empanadas.
