At the moment the Place Picker shows the map with all of the Places marked on the map. The list of places is at the bottom of the screen.

It would be great if the user could filter the places byPlace Type.

For example, the map and list would only show Restaurants nearby, or Bus stops or Shops.

It could be done easily by passing in a PlaceType or list of PlaceTypes as a parameter to the PlacePicker activity.

Many developers would REALLY love to see this feature.

I definitely would like to use the PlacePicker in my App, but only if I could restrict the type of places being shown. Currently it might be confusing for users to find the place they are looking for among all the other places of irrelevant type. At least it way easier to find the one you're looking for if only relevant places would be shown.

It is currently kind of useless for most use cases. And really very very slow.

A filter on type would improve speed, and usability.

It might influence the growth of a great number of mobile apps for various types of users.

Is there any timeline or any plans as to whether or not this feature will be implemented soon?

I think, this is one of most important feature. Almost every app that uses Place API, restrict the places to some types.

If we need a place as input, we could call the PlacePicker, but if the user can only select from establishment places? Now the PlacePicker has all the places in the earth available, and this is a bad UX. So, we will have to create our own "PlacePicker".

So only if we can filter the places, the PlacePicker may be useful at all.

There's a deadline to this feature?

I agree - this feature would be really really useful. Currently I have to move towards using the web service api instead just so I can filter by place type.
