I work for Streamline within Union Pacific. We are responsible for coordinating with customers to get their shipment moved by truck, then rail, then truck again. When we do this, we like to give our customers a full ETA from the time we pick it up by truck, to the time we deliver it by truck. We have ETA's for rail, but we need them for the truck routes. Rand McNally gives miles for truck routes, PC Miler gives miles and duration for truck routes, but the durations are not reasonable. We would like for Google to add a flag (like car, public, walking, biking) for truck routes. Truck routes should adhere to HHG standards and should look for things like height clearance, bridges that don't allow trucks, etc.

For example, we would call the google API with two zip codes:

LOS ANGELES	90040	LOS ANGELES	90031

Rand McNally says this is 4 miles. PC Miler says it is 7.6 miles and would take 10 minutes. Google says it is 9.4 miles and would take 35 minutes.

Our customers have a high respect for google data and would prefer we use this to tell them their ETA. However, we need to make sure the route that is used adheres to truck regulations. Can you help?

Thank you!!!

Our application is RV Trip Wizard™ and we support people driving all over the US and Canada in large motorhomes, up to 45', that are as much as 14' high. While we have low clearance warnings on roads, we don't have them all. But there is no way for us to know what roads do not permit RV's.

For instance, NO parkway in NY permits RV's and yet there is no way to know that on Google Maps. This is a crucially important issue for us.

Please add the truck option to the Google maps GPS application. The current options are sufficient for cars however it places professional drivers on roads prohibited and in some cases extremely dangerous. Low bridges are of course an issue with a height of 13'6". Weight limit restrictions, etc. I think I have made my point on this matter, please help us to further enhance our use of this wonderful tool.

Actually, I am quite surpristed that this feature is not already in APIs, when there are so many traffic companies which would surely use it rather than Garmin or OSM.. And not talking about great apps built on this and therefore more business.

We in the motor coach industry would use this information to plan charters and tours as well as a time saver on long trips to be in compliance with federal government regulations.

We use Google's API for providing distance/fuel estimates as well as directions for all of our company's truck drivers. The problem is that the directions provided are fit for cars, and cannot be guarenteed to be safe for trucks.

Currently a few big players own the GPS Routing market for Freight transportation. Please don't allow these few companies to monopolise the market.

We are waiting patiently for Google to enable truck Routing via it's Restful API

I have to agree with the others here. I have an app that calculates distances and rates for shipments using Google Maps. It is really a problem in East Coast metropolitan's (NYC) and some rural towns (Gettysburg PA) where truck traffic is NOT allowed. My distance and rates can be significantly off.

With Google as large and with the resources it has, am very surprised this is not available yet.

I am a new truck driver and I love everything about google map as except as a trucker, it is next to useless to me. Google maps would be the definitive navigation application if only... Please finish the job and make it trucker friendly. If I had to pay some yearly fee, I would as google maps is hands down the best api out there except for that last little missing piece.

This feature is the difference between my company being Google's customer and going to other providers. To see it classified as a "neat idea" is hugely disappointing. You are excluding the entire transportation industry (8.5% of the US GDP) by not embracing a reasonable request.

im not sure, but i think it has alot to do with commercial vehicles being marginalized. i noticed the entire industry operating around commercial vehicles is all about making money. my guess would be that Google doesn't wanna step on the toes of companies selling navigation equipment for the commercial sector. it could also be a liability issue.. if Google maps causes a driver to crash or lose profits, would they sue Google?

even with all that said, it would still be nice to have Google trucks feature. i prefer Google maps if possible.

Having the ability to follow truck routes with google maps would be an addition that would enhance the maps greatly for an active user base. It would be extremely helpful. Thank you for your consideration.

We've launched a platform to help last-mile delivery operators become more efficient, and make decisions based on their own performance data. Google Maps is a critical part of our application, but the truck driving routes are a real lacking feature. A lot of our customers have trucks that are too large for some streets and this is a massive limitation.

This feature would drastically and dramatically change the entire logistics market!!!

many other online services are suited for trucks, just like mappy.fr

if mappy could do it, why google cannot do it?

A CMV API would help a lot via labor statistics (http://www.bls.gov/iag/tgs/iag484.htm) there are 1.4 million individuals employed in the logistics industry. It would be very helpful to have a standard option that everyone could have access to.

Truck routes would be helpful. Maybe just a vehicle.height param will be enough, while making route?

Truck routing API would be nice. We have to use the barbaric / expensive PC Miler API.

Can here api be used in google maps?
Jul 8, 2015
#35 [email protected]
The here api is priced quite high, 5500 euro monthly if you need truck routing for enterprise applications. It's intended to work with the here.com maps. Google's biggest competitor for Google maps. I hope Google steps up soon to fill this gap in maps. Solid competition might help with prioritisation

Come on Google! Please add Truck Routes and Truck Restrictions to Google Maps!
Look at all the Trucks out on the road that keep America (and Google) running! There's a market out there for Google to tap!

If Google maps can find public restrooms why not simple truck routes. The truck routing seems to me a safety issue even more urgent than a public restroom.

WE NEED TRUCK ROUTES OPTION!!! We go into downtown LA and cant afford getting on the wrong surface street for a delivery. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add truck route specific

#43 [email protected]
All of the information for truck routing is scattered, and I accept that, but google should have no trouble pulling all of the government data down, consolidating it, and applying it. Is there at least a way to give us the option of building this data into the routing filter, if we pull it down ourselves?

I drive a truck here in the LA area on a daily basis, and soon a 37' 5th wheel, I, we all desperately need quality maps. I have seen none better than yours, but please add a "large vehicle" button to your maps and make a hundred thousand drivers ecstatic.
Thank you.
