Good question, but I think it's too broad and can be broken down to some more specific questions. For example, moving files, moving docker containers and and moving AWS Lambda functions all deserve their own question. – Adam Matan Jun 23 at 18:05

What are the differences between Public, Private and Hybrid Clouds?
added by CGCampbell Mar 15 at 11:23
link|flag
Thanks for the question! I would like to suggest a rephrase. Instead of "Are there any real differences... or are they only semantic" which might seem argumentative, consider "What are the differences between X, Y and Z?" Which is shorter and more focused. – Adam Matan Mar 15 at 12:22
My only concern is that is a "too easy" or "look it up on wikipedia" question... of course that might be a good one to ask to see if this SE wants to handle easy Cloud 101 type questions. – CGCampbell Mar 15 at 12:25
a. It's perfectly OK to have easy questions in a Q&A sites! b. You can't figure out the answer to this question by simply reading a few paragraphs in a Wikipedia article, it requires some research and combining multiple sources. – Adam Matan Mar 15 at 18:22

What are the differences in availability, durability, and storage semantics for various cloud storage options?
added by Misha Brukman Jun 12 at 19:00

Is the latency lower in Perth, Australia from the ap-southeast-1 or ap-southeast-2 region?
added by Drew Mar 12 at 11:16

1
To the best of my knowledge, ap-southeast-2 is the appropriate AWS region for Australia. However, you can always test your latency towards any AWS region using this online tool: cloudping.info – Barak Barracuda Mar 21 at 9:25
To the best of my knowledge for me, it's also appropriate. But we're based in Sydney, so we can't do the ping test. Looking at submarinecablemap.com/# it's not clear that the sydney region would be better. – Drew Mar 21 at 10:18

In AWS, describe the differences between NACLS, Security Groups and HBSS (or HBF)?
added by CGCampbell Mar 15 at 11:21
link|flag
Good one. Would you consider rephrasing to a simpler form - "What are the differences between X, Y and Z in AWS"? the word "describe" might be interpreted as an invitation to write an essay, rather than a focused question. – Adam Matan Mar 15 at 12:25
Adam, don't look at questions during this phase as 'questions to be answered'... look at them from the perspective of 'what is wrong (or right) with this type of question' ... we'll have to build the questions to ask and questions not to ask from these... I tried to ask a question with a multi-part answer, to see if we want this type of question, or would it be kicked back with an "ask each part separately response. – CGCampbell Mar 15 at 12:36
Look at the blue box in the upper right corner... if you like this type of question, upvote it, if not downvote it. I promise I won't be upset. I'm really trying to get this stack out of definition and into beta, I think it's a great se idea (obviously) – CGCampbell Mar 15 at 12:39
No offense! I really appreciate the effort in this, and it's a good question in my opinion (but my vote count is limited). Regarding my comment: I do think that avoiding argumentative wording in the question text might appear more professional and beta-ready, even at this phase. – Adam Matan Mar 15 at 18:30

What are specific problems I will have when trying to run LimeSurvey on AWS? (examples: handling uploads directory, email bounce checking).
added by Shorn May 29 at 0:20
link|flag
This is a problem I'm currently sorting though. At first I wanted to make the question more general, like "Problems encountered running non-native software in the cloud". But I feel the more specific question is more answerable. – Shorn May 29 at 0:23

Which cloud platform is better for X - AWS or Azure?
added by Shorn May 29 at 0:27

Are these going to be allowed? Where's the line going to be? Will it be ok if the askers manages to craft a question that is specific enough to be actually answerable (say a specific question about disk performance for a specific type of workload?) – Shorn May 29 at 0:27
1
This is very subjective, so I don't think this question is appropriate. Plus the cloud is constantly changing so a correct answer today would be wrong tomorrow. A better question would be "What are the trade-offs between X in AWS and Azure?" – Chris Pietschmann Jun 30 at 14:24
