About you
- What timezone are you in? (Please answer in UTC.)
UTC - 5
- Have you moderated on Reddit before? If so, what subreddits and what were your main duties?
I moderate a decent amount of subs. Some of the larger ones are TIFU, and murderedbywords. Main duties are mentorship, clearing the mod queues, and improving the the sub by revisiting the rules, modifying the filter, etc...
- To be a moderator here it's essential for you to use two web extensions (Toolbox and Snoonotes), you'd also need to idle Discord. Would this be a problem?
I moderate communities that meet these requirements, I don't have any issues continuing this process.
- How often are you on Reddit? An exact amount of hours isn't required, we just want an idea of how active you would be.
I'm active on reddit approximately, 15 hours daily. Those hours vary due to real life and work requirements, but that is the average.
- Do you primarily use desktop or mobile?
I primarily use desktop, but can conduct the same actions on mobile.
Moderation
- Why do you want to be a moderator here? What sets you apart from the other applicants?
I am a hard worker and find ways to improve the communities I moderate. I have two years of experience and try and improve through mentorship.
- What are your top 3 favourite subreddits and what makes them your favourite?
I enjoy /r/pics, /r/EarthPorn, /u/news. I enjoy any photo related pics because their aesthetically pleasing and I always see something new. I enjoy news because users easily breakdown the importance of the news article which creates a good discussion.
- What do you think of the current rules? What rules would you add or remove?
I would possibly review the rule about screen captures, sometimes a user screen captures something on their screen due to saving limitations, generally it's simple to save an image from a website.
- If picked, would you be able to do at least 150 mod actions per month? It's pretty easy to do 150 in a sub this size.
I would definitely be able to meet the minimum mod actions per month.
- What do you think the role of a moderator is?
The role of moderator is similar to a referee, sit in the background and enforce the rules. Generally allows users to self correct but inserts themes elves when rules are being broken.
Scenarios
- A controversial video is posted, people are trying to witch-hunt somebody in the video or someone related to it by harassing them and posting personal information. What would you do?
I would lock the thread as to prevent any further witch hunting. I would temporarily ban the user to find out the issue, based on the circumstances and situation I would act appropriately. I would either remove the ban, leave in place or enforce the appropriate rules.
- If a rule-breaking submission had a lot of upvotes would you still remove it? Why or why not?
I would still remove it per the sidebar rules, I understand the heartache it would cause but mods have lives too we try to catch everything.
- You see a video here that is just a static image with audio or a slideshow. Would you remove it or approve it?
I would remove it, most likely that video isn't proper for this sub and may be considered spam.
- A user sends a modmail complaining about their submission that was removed (most complaints about removals are regarding rule 1). They get angry and insult you personally. What would you do?
I would remain calm and professional and explain the reasoning behind the removal. I would explain the sidebar rules which are not all inclusive. I would ensure I get an azimuth check from the mods to ensure I'm following the proper protocols.
- A user sends a modmail complaining about a wrongfully removed post and you agree with the user. What would you do?
I would review the post in question, I would reinstate the post if it met the requirements.
- How would you deal with bigoted and hateful comments? Would you remove, approve or remove and ban?
That type of speech is unacceptable, I would remove, ban, and note it in snoo notes. I would also report to the admins.
