New Star Wars: Rogue One characters, vehicle debut on Celebration poster

Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm's annual convention dedicated to everything and anything Star Wars, has an official poster with added details for those looking for some insight into the series' next film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The poster, which debuted during Disney and Lucasfilm’s weekly Star Wars show, which you can watch above, mainly features the actors from The Force Awakens, including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Upon further inspection, however, you can see a new stormtrooper and AT-AT, along with a closer look at Rogue One’s death troopers. The newest stormtrooper, which can be seen in the bottom left-hand corner of the poster, is called a shoretrooper. There isn't too much known about the shoretrooper, but based on their name, it's pretty apparent that they'll be...

Rare teaser for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi unearthed

It may be almost four decades old, but relics surrounding Star Wars are still being uncovered and revealed. This time, The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Science has posted a rare teaser trailer for the third film in the franchise, Return of the Jedi, on YouTube. You can see it in the video above. Before the film had its name changed to Return of the Jedi, it was called Revenge of the Jedi. Originally called Revenge of the Jedi, after the first posters went out Lucas was reminded by fans — in the words of Yoda himself in The Empire Strikes Back — that revenge was not a value of the Jedi, so the title was changed. The original teaser trailers for the film all ran with the Revenge of the Jedi title, promising the third movie would arrive on May 25, 1983. E...

Original Fast and Furious returning to theaters for one-day event

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Fast and Furious movie, Universal is bringing the film back to theaters for one day only. The film will play in most major cineplexes across the United States on June 22. Tickets for the film can be purchased here. First released in 2001, The Fast and Furious grossed $207 million worldwide, not only spawning a sequel, but leading to one of the biggest action franchises in history. Vin Diesel, star of the franchise and one of the creative leads behind the films, told Entertainment Weekly that it was the movie that changed his life. He called the experience surreal, and said one of the best outcomes that came out of doing the films was the relationship he developed with Paul Walker. Walker, who starred in every movie with the exception...

There are no plans to bring Star Wars: The Force Awakens to US Netflix

Disney and Netflix's landmark pay one deal, which gives the streaming service exclusive rights to Disney's newest theatrical releases, unfortunately won't include Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The deal, which was struck between the two companies years ago, only counts theatrical releases from Jan. 1, 2016, onward. This means that while all future installments of Star Wars, including this year's Rogue One, will appear on Netflix, Starz still has the exclusive rights to The Force Awakens. A Disney representative told Polygon that the movie, which was released last December, was just a few weeks shy of making the cut. The representative did confirm, however, that Netflix users in Canada would still be able to watch The Force Awakens, because the deal that was made for international...

Thor: Ragnarok will feature quite a bit of Hulk

Mark Ruffalo says that fans of the Hulk will be happy to know that the next Thor installment, Ragnarok, features way more Hulk than ever before. Sitting down to talk to Entertainment Tonight, Ruffalo said that there's a lot more Hulk in the third Thor film, which has been described as a buddy road trip movie focusing on two of Marvel's biggest heroes. Although Ruffalo couldn't give too much away, he said this will be the biggest and "Hulkiest" version of his character yet. "I think it will be smashing," Ruffalo said. "The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk hulks out. Hulkier and bigger." The interview comes just a week after the entire cast of Ragnarok was introduced, including Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Cate Blanchett as the new villain, Hela. When asked what he thought of the...

New Finding Dory trailer leaves the ocean and enters the theme park

The newest trailer for Pixar's Finding Dory starts off with a little bit of insight into Dory's childhood before ripping her out of the ocean and throwing her into an aquarium at a theme park. While the trailer starts off sad, it doesn't take too long for the aquatic-themed humor of the film's predecessor, Finding Nemo, to get going. It also introduces a cast of new characters, including a few octopi, some sea lions and various species of fish. Finding Dory follows the tiny blue fish (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) as she tries to find her family. Based on the new trailer, we know she went missing as a child and hasn't seen them since. Afflicted with short-term memory loss, Dory can't even remember where she last saw them, but is finally going to try and track them down after all these...

Original Halloween director involved in new Halloween project

Iconic horror-movie director John Carpenter has signed onto Blumhouse Productions' reboot of Halloween — the film he first directed in 1978 — as an executive producer. Carpenter will also act as a creative consultant, but Jason Blumhouse, CEO and founder of the production company, said that it's more than an acting title. Carpenter will act as the "Godfather" of the entire operation, working closely with the new director to ensure the reboot feels as authentic as possible. This means the newest film in the franchise will probably focus a bit more on the anxiety-inducing jump scares courtesy of the terrifying serial killer Michael Myers from the original film and less on the gory aesthetic made popular by Rob Zombie in his remakes. "Halloween needs to return to its traditions,"...

You can buy your X-Men: Apocalypse tickets through Snapchat

Snapchat, the widely used photo creation and sharing social network, has partnered up with 20th Century Fox to sell X-Men: Apocalypse tickets to those who use the app. According to Mashable, Snapchat users will have the option to click on a vertical video ad that will be displayed once they open the app to purchase tickets. The ad will bring them to a new window where they can purchase the tickets, but all of this will be done within the confines of the app itself. This is different than how many social networking platforms operate now, which runs an ad that users can click on and then takes them to a web portal page to purchase the actual item. Fox is the first company to use Snapchat as a platform to sell directly to consumers, but that's not the only way the studio is taking...

New Independence Day: Resurgence trailer is nearly five minutes of apocalyptic mayhem

The first international trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence is now live, and it's not a quick watch. Unlike previous spots aired in December and, most recently, during February's Super Bowl 50, the new clip offers a long look at the upcoming film. Ahead of Independence Day: Resurgence's premiere next month, you can see stars Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg face increasingly extreme dangers. Jeff Goldblum also makes a few appearances among the wreckage. The film, set 20 years after the first Independence Day — which co-starred Goldblum and hit theaters in 1996 — again finds the United States waging war against a crop of aliens. Will Smith, who led the charge against the extraterrestrials in the original film, won't be making an appearance; his character died following the...

Watch Emma Watson transform into Belle in the first trailer for Beauty and the Beast

The first trailer for Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast movie, which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, is here. The first teaser trailer for the movie, which runs just under two minutes in length, doesn't give away too much, but does set the mood. Fans of the original animated classic from 1991 — the first Disney animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars — will be pleased to see the mansion from the film in all of its enchanting glory. The movie follows Belle, played by Watson, as she enters a strange residence occupied by a ghastly beast. The two spend time together and — with some help from the various household objects that come to life —eventually fall in love with one another. The film stars Stevens (The Guest) as the misunderstood Beast, alongside...

If you're not following Mark Hamill on Twitter, maybe fix that? The actor, whose many famous roles include Adrian Ripburger in Full Throttle, routinely answers fan questions. Today he revealed how they shot the creepy vision sequence in The Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader's mask explodes and Luke Skywalker's dead eyes stare out. It was my head protruding through an opening in the set floor as I stood below-My prop head was tested but rejected. https://t.co/10mUunERWB — Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) May 22, 2016 So there you go. For a trilogy beloved for its use of practical effects (a tradition J.J. Abrams deliberately revitalized with The Force Awakens last year), it's a comfort to know that is actually Hamill's grill in Darth's smoldering helmet. Here's the whole thing in...

Lawsuit against fan-made Star Trek movie to be dropped, J.J. Abrams says

A lawsuit brought by Paramount Pictures against a fan-made and funded Star Trek film is "going away," director J.J. Abrams told a crowd at a Star Trek fan event on Friday night. Abrams, according to io9, told fans that Justin Lin, the director of Star Trek Beyond, was angered by the lawsuit Paramount Pictures brought back in December against Axanar Productions, which raised more than $1 million to film and produce Axanar, pitched as a prequel to the original Star Trek television series. Lin, said Abrams, "was sort of outraged by this as a longtime fan," and went to Paramount "and pushed them to stop this lawsuit." Abrams says that "in the next few weeks," there'll be an announcement that the suit "is going away." That was news to Axanar Productions. io9 got a statement from the...

Fruit Ninja to be adapted into a live-action feature film

Halfbrick Studios has partnered up with Vinson Studios to bring its popular mobile game, Fruit Ninja, to the big screen in a live-action adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The game is the second top-selling iOS game of all time, just behind Angry Birds; a game that just so happened to also receive a film adaptation. Angry Birds is currently playing in theaters everywhere. There's not much known about the project, but it will be a family comedy and it will be live-action. The game, which follows a group of ninjas intent on ridding the world of fruit, has little-to-no narrative aspect. Neither studio have announced plans for what the storyline may consist of in the adaptation. There's no estimated time for when production on the Fruit Ninja film is scheduled to begin, but...

The Nice Guys review: A buddy-cop movie done right

The two main characters brought together to solve the investigation have to be likeable despite their obvious flaws. Most importantly, as they uncover more clues about whatever their case may be — usually it involves a missing person — there has to be a level of growth and maturity that we see them go through. Fortunately, director Shane Black has proven before that he knows the secret recipe to making a great buddy-cop film. If Kiss Kiss Bang Bang — Black's film from 2005 that starred Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer — was an idea of what the director was capable of, The Nice Guys confirms that no one's doing the subgenre as much justice as Black is. While it's hard to say one is better than the other, The Nice Guys is without a doubt one of Black's best films to date. ...
