    Over the weekend some feminist activists had a little fun with the sign at the entrance to Jerusalem that says “Welcome” and changed it to be in the feminine. In Hebrew there is no gender neutral form.

    There were other Muslim religious leaders in Gaza who warned the Israelis about the Muslim Brotherhood but in the end they were permitted to receive financial help from abroad. Sheikh Ahmed Yassin apparently read the writings of Jabotinsky and Rabin.

    The man from Me’ah She’arim took a look at Jacob Walles, the US Consul General in Jerusalem, and from his face could immediately recognize him as being from their extended family. That’s Jerusalem. 5/5

    Be’er describes how they are walking around Me’ah She’arim when suddenly he realizes that a man walking by them in a striped caftan of the Old Yishuv is also a cousin. He stops the man and explains who he is and who the other man is with him. 4/

    Eventually that cousin, Jacob Walles, became the US Consul General in Jerusalem and was the lead person in maintaining contact with the Palestinians. One day Haim Be’er took his cousin Jacob Walles for a walk around Me’ah She’arim to see where their family was from. 3/
