Cooking in America is back for its second season, this time exploring the varied cuisines and culinary traditions that make up Hawaii’s vibrant food scene.

A 6-part series hosted by Sheldon Simeon — Hilo, Hawaii-born chef and restaurant owner, as well as current contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef — this season introduces viewers to a family of Vietnamese refugees who have made a name for their cooking on the island, a farm raising pigs in the Japanese tradition, and the buzz around one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in the state, if not country.

As in any major city, immigrants run the food industry in Hawaii. It's "American food" to the core — an amalgamation of cuisines as diverse as the United State's population, and with just as rich a history.
