    1 June 2016 -- WHO declares the end of Ebola virus transmission in the Republic of Guinea. Forty-two days have passed since the last person confirmed to have Ebola virus disease tested negative for the second time. Guinea now enters a 90-day period of heightened surveillance.

    28 May 2016 -- In her closing remarks, Dr Margaret Chan highlighted some main achievements of the Health Assembly, including approval of the new programme for health emergencies. She described the item on polio eradicatoin as a high point, noting that one of the greatest achievements in the history of public health is now within our grasp.
