First of all, in some cases you cannot enable SSH, if IOS image does not support it. But it's definitely better to have SSH rather than TELNET.

I agree David, it's a false dichotomy in many ways. It's definitely better for each engineer to have the freedom to choose the best fool for them for any given task. Thanks for the comment.

I think CLI is essential to know and as you say is extremely useful for some tasks. I find some things are easier to track on GUI, referrng directly to cisco, analysing traffic logs and quick searching.
