Yes, this isn't the full asteroid belt. These are special cases where the asteroids end up in Jupiter's Lagrange Points.

This answer right here. ^

Basically, the dots you're seeing on the animation are way bigger than they'd be in real life. But if they were shown to actual scale, you wouldn't even be able to see them.

Also, some Trojans and Hildas are not orbiting on the same plane as the others (keep in mind that space is 3d, not 2d).

It has to do with what happens when a giant nebula of gas and dust starts to form a star. All the gas and dust basically flattens into what's called a "protoplanetary disc" that is rotating in one direction, similar to how water gets sucked down the drain. Moons, planets, asteroids, large bodies, etc. get formed from this disc, so it makes sense that they'd all be in the same plane.

Also explains why most of the objects in the solar system are moving in the same direction as well.

The protoplanetary disk, after going “splat” in one dimension, will continue to contract down as more and more matter gets attracted to the center. But while much of the material gets funnelled inside, a substantial amount of it will wind up in a stable, spinning orbit in this disk.

There’s a physical quantity that has to be conserved: angular momentum, which tells us how much the entire system — gas, dust, star and all — is intrinsically spinning. Because of how angular momentum works overall, and how its shared pretty evenly between the different particles inside, this means that everything in the disk needs to move, roughly, in the same (clockwise or counterclockwise) direction overall. Over time, that disk reaches a stable size and thickness, and then small gravitational instabilities begin to grow those instabilities into planets.

Source article for above.

Further reading:

Rings and disks are common in astronomy. When a cloud collapses, the conservation of angular momentum amplifies any initial tiny spin of the cloud. As the cloud spins faster and faster, it collapses into a disk, which is the maximal balance between gravitational collapse and centrifugal force created by rapid spin. The result is the coplanar planets, the thin disks of spiral galaxies, and the accretion disks around black holes.

Well, if you think about it, any asteroids and trojans on a collision course have already collided a long time ago. They've had billions of years to collide and sort themselves out.

These little guys are the survivors.

Flying the Mara in that SOC mission was loads of fun. One of my favorite missions.

Let's talk about maps.

I'm looking to do some work on states, counties, and international countries. What's the best mapping tool out there?

For reference, I'm quite familiar with R but haven't messed with their map packages

No FICO score? by Bilalin in personalfinance

In theory this should already be on your credit report. If it's not, you might need to talk to your credit card company and get them to report the correct EIN or tax id #

same job but new owners, how to describe on credit applications? by journalizing in personalfinance

[–]zonination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just list the employer that most accurately describes your current situation.

Also, in addition, I'd call your credit companies (card and/or loan) and let them know that the name of your employer has changed, update to the most recent. Most credit card websites have this built in.

  1. Debit cards don't count on your credit reports
  2. Please take a look at the Minimum Requirements for a FICO score. It's likely you're just not on the radar
  3. If you want to start building credit, try taking a look at the relevant section in the Wiki. I don't think many banks will report your Authorized Usership as valid since you're being added by a friend and not a family member, but that depends on the bank. Spouses are a different story, though, see if you can piggyback off of your married partner on a credit account.

20 with 4,500 or more in debt and ruined credit. What can I do by Mgrac00e in personalfinance

[–]zonination 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's a step-by-step I'd recommend:

  1. Start budgeting. Income = expenses + savings. Don't stop counting until that equation is balanced. Check out the Wiki on budgeting and consider tools like Mint (/r/mintuit) YNAB (/r/ynab) or one of the spreadsheets in the Wiki.
  2. Start assessing your debt. List out your debts and plan to pay at least the minimum on all of them, while targeting the debt at the highest interest rate with spare cash.
  3. As for the Credit situation, you might want to take a look at I have Bad Credit and I am Looking to Repair It in the Wiki.

It all starts with budgeting, though. You need to start doing some accounting and figure out how you can make ends meet with some cold numbers. More detailed info here.

I'm paying them for a credit report now to initiate the dispute,

If you initiate a dispute based on a report you received or an Adverse Action notice, you don't have to pay to dispute it. You can dispute online, by fax, by phone, or by snail mail.

Alternately, sometimes one bureau will contact the other two and you can just wait for it to fall off. Key word here is sometimes though

Yeah, I'd hold off, or at least talk with your loan officer and ask if this would invalidate your mortgage application
