On pages which start with a hyperlink, the link editing widget opens automatically when VE starts up. This is quite annoying, as 99% of the time you want to edit the text of the page, and not the hyperlink. Is there a way to disable this, other than adding whitespace to the start of the page before the link?
VisualEditor/Feedback
I think there is a task I filed about this behavior. However, I vaguely recall that it got relabelled in "dev jargon" afterwards, so I'm unable to tell you what it is ATM. I'll ask.

Will the new image feature be integrated with the upload feature so you can upload local images easily? This would be very useful for us that uses the mediawiki software as a local wiki. Currently we use the extension msupload to make it smoother to add images for the users.
Yes, this is planned, though not in the next couple of months, at least.
Any more news on when this is planned?
BR, Daniel
Hi Daniel,
Apologies for the delay in getting an answer to you. They're still sorting out some of the technical requirement issues with the multimedia team, so it's not been possible to get anything like firm answer. My best estimate at this time ("subject to change without warning"
) is maybe four to six months from now—definitely not before March 2014.
I'm not sure, however, whether it will be available for local/private wikis before or after it becomes available for the WMF wikis. It's possible that private wikis will be the easy case (no need to integrate with Commons or comply with 800 different image policies) and they'll do it first. But they might do it the other way around, in which case what you need might not be available until much later.
I am also waiting for this to be implemented. We are running a private wiki and only need the ability to upload images privately.
Just thought I'd add this in because we love Visual Editor, other than missing this feature, and of course the ability to create tables.
Is there currently a way to disable the image integration with Commons in a .php file somewhere?
Justin
You might also want to keep an eye on 38030 and related bugs. Regards,
I had anticipated that with VisualEditor and syntaxhighlight_geshi the editor would display code block text within the code block in the editor, instead I am seeing <syntaxhighlight> </syntaxhighligh> tags and plain text. Which is quite difficult to accurately edit. If there is a configuration change required?
What version are you using ? This was added relatively recently, so it might not yet be available unless you use unreleased versions of several of the components.
Well, I hold my hands up. It was an issue with how I had parsoid configured. Basically, although it was running it wasn't being loaded correctly by the VisualEditor or Wiki, so it was breaking everything. It looks clean and tidy now!
When a topic has been created with an embedded image in its body, then is saved and subsequently the page edited again the image appears as a 'broken image' frame.
If I Copy Image Address 'URL' appears as 'data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==' as an example.
However if I change the image to the same image again the URL doesn't change but the image displays as expected within the editor.
I am sure this is likely a configuration issue but some help in resolving this would be appreciated.

Apparently, the following words are regarded to the software's dictionary as incorrect:
- Los Angeles
- Pre-production
- VFX
- Blu-ray (DVD thingy)
- Garageband (Macintosh software)
- Las Vegas
- Flappy Bird (infamous game)
More words incorrect:
- SFX
- MobyGames
- Psy (the Gangnam Style guy)
- Oppa Gangnam Style (part of the Gangnam Style song)
Qwertyxp2000, it's hardly surprising if a spelling dictionary doesn't include abbreviations, jargon, and trademarks, but what makes you think that these words "are regarded to the software's dictionary as incorrect"?
VisualEditor does not have any spelling checker tools. If you're seeing spell check warnings, it's from your own computer, not from VisualEditor.
Oh.

In Bengali Wikipedia, If we click on Cite (উদ্ধৃতি) and provide a url and click on Generate (উত্পন্ন করুন), the references are not created at all automatically. Instead cite web (ওয়েব উদ্ধৃতি) template is created without any texts and links. For example, https://bn.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=2065681
What is the solution to this problem?
Something is misconfigured? See points 6 and 7 of Help:VisualEditor/VE_as_the_main_editor.
There is no TemplateData on the citation templates and no definitions for VisualEditor. Start at VisualEditor/Citation tool#Template data, and work your way down the list. You can {{ping}} me if you get stuck. I was working on this for another (even smaller) wiki a little while ago, and it can be tricky.
@Whatamidoing (WMF)@Elitre (WMF) Thanks. I added TemplateData and now auto Generate is working.
Are you sure? It didn't work in my test at bn.wikipedia.org.

Following up with user at their wiki.
While Ctrl+K (add link) and the likes are working using an Arabic keyboard layout, Ctrl+V and Ctrl+S (edit and save) are not.
Sorry for the delay. Will take a look from a Windows machine.
