    My grandfather fled east after Nazis invaded Poland, and was sent to Siberia. One day he stole some food. A Russian soldier put his rifle in my granddads chest and asked why he steals if Mother Russia gave him food. His response: "If you had to eat the shit we do you'd steal too"

    Ooh let’s do stories. My great-grandfather was conscripted to the Russian army to be cannon fodder, deserted (stealing a horse), joined the 1905 revolution to overthrow the Czar and when it failed, came to NYC & opened a candy store. tho tbh

    We were a bit stumped by in this episode. As it's explained here (is the description good?) there are striking parallels to Chanukah. -Diwali = "row of lights" (like menora) -war w triumph of good over evil (like Maccabis') -renewed kingship (")
