We believe it is the moral responsibility of every government to support civil activities that take a stand against the terrorism and extremism that plagues and threatens our region and collective security. Otherwise there could be long-standing negative consequences.

The Afghan government has serious concerns about the violence perpetrated against peaceful protestors and civil activists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

We both agreed that words, rumors, and speculations cannot replace actions and that our partnership and resolve will remain strong in the pursuit of peace.

He also underscored the central importance of ensuring the centrality of the Afghan government in the peace process. He reiterated the U.S. commitment and support to holding the upcoming presidential elections in July.

The Secretary also stressed that our military partnership is unwavering and will remain until a lasting and inclusive peace is achieved.

I spoke to Secretary Mike Pompeo (@SecPompeo) over the phone this evening. Reiterating the stance and commitment of the United States, Secretary Pompeo stressed that there is no uncertainty and ambiguity about the U.S. commitment to Afghanistan and our enduring partnership.

I reiterate that the most effective way to end civilian casualties is to prevent and end the Afghan conflict. We are committed to work towards that end.

We have an obligation and a national policy to prevent civilian casualties. I have urged our brave security forces and international allies to mitigate civilian harm.

However, the war has cost immense treasure and life. And now entails urgent need for peace. I mourn the loss of innocent victims and offer my condolences to the bereaved families.

The strike in Helmand where friendly forces accidentally killed civilians is a tragic reminder that the war has gone for too long. 18 enemy combatants have also been killed but enemy uses human shield to place non-combatants in harms way and have repeated this tactic frequently.

I thank our partners and their commitment to ending the Afghan conflict and lending support for an inclusive Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

I presented our comprehensive plan for the next steps of peace process. It was widely welcomed by our international partners particularly the United States, the European Union and the participating nations at this conference.
