Apparently it’s ’s birthday! So here’s to my favorite random aisle mate ever. And since she’s a millennial, I shall include a gif to commemorate:

So, the official YouTube twitter account -- and its 70 million followers -- retweeted this, and now my phone won't stop dinging. It's an interesting experiment in engagement, vitality, and other buzzy silliness on Twitter. Also, it's not even anywhere near my best work!

The problem with deep learning models like this is you lose interpretability. Like, once we have our prediction, we can’t really work backwards. That seemingly magic “1.0” factor...what does that actually *mean*?

My bad, guys. If I'd put an "@" in front of YouTube up there, perhaps they woulda RTed this tweet -- to their 70-some-odd-million followers -- instead of the other one and, um, y'know, something good woulda come of it other than my phone dinging nonstop.

Now I’m totally imagining a segment on where quizzes on which YouTube titles are real and which are made up: “Best QPR crosses (94-98)” “Uhhh, that’s one’s fake” “Nope, 20,000 views!” “Handballs in the 90th minute” “Real! I’ve seen that one!”

There is no YouTube rabbit hole quite like soccer highlight YouTube rabbit hole. "TOP 10 PENALTIES FROM BOTTOM-TABLE ARABIAN GULF LEAGUE SIDES?" Yeah, sure, that's worth a gander.

“Body of Lies” was great, but Leo ain’t got nothing on Rukmini here. This is amazing.

The high order bit of late-fusion techniques performing better than linear models etc. is interesting, but forgive me if I’m skeptical. This is either predicting a MASSIVE signal — I don’t know enough about the bipolar population to say — or *painfully* overfit. H/T

This is a relatively easy way of guaranteeing an A-grade for offseason roster construction.

Finally, somebody who gets me! In the spirit of that, here’s Danzig’s “Cantspeak”, a fifth rate Tool rip-off with a video that looks like Fred Durst’s senior film school project.

If you don't love me at my tweeting snarky pop culture references, then you don't deserve me at my tweeting useful analytics things. Or whatever.

Awesome to see people sharing data. I'm not really a hockey person, but it'll be interesting to see what we can do with this!

On the one hand, this has been expected for awhile. On the other, it's the NFL and actual legit data, so it really is a "believe it when you see it" sort of thing. But now if you're running an NFL team, go hire and The Gains Group!

...and then I started thinking about "The Apostle" [another great movie that maybe didn't get its due], and then I started thinking that for as much [supposedly?] great new content that comes out, all I really want is someone to revisit the stuff I already know in today's context

...it being easter and all, it made me think of this quote from Black Snake Moan. And then I started thinking about how much I liked the movie when it came out, and that it didn't get its due because of a terrible "white woman chained in a black man's house!" marketing campaign.

Random question: Is there a website -- does exist? -- that will tell me if the goalposts have moved regarding certain pieces of pop culture? Sometimes it's obvious, but it isn't always, and I only have the one frame of reference, so c.f. Black Snake Moan
