For these two messages there is a warning "Following parameter is unknown: $3" despite documentation suggesting that there should be an optional variable which "can be used for PLURAL". Is the variable really unimplemented or is the warning redundant?

For MediaWiki:Notification-header-user-rights-add-and-remove/sk the docs don't mention optional variables, but apparently it's expected to have similar plural support as first two.

I blocked User:Zpizza for inserting machine translation into Arabic messages and talk page vandalism. He also edited az/ba/es/ru/szl/udm messages. I reverted/deleted his edits for Arabic. However, I prefer that native speakers of the said languages review/revert his edits as necessary.

@MarcoAurelio: Since you're a steward, do you have a way to try touching both logs (or, have you did some actions in the past that touch both?), so that we could know which "page" the $3 points?

I think $3 means the IP or CIDR being locally whitelisted or de-whitelisted.

I did some testing at <https://es.wikibooks.org/wiki/Especial:Registro/gblblock>. Indeed $3 seems to be User:<blockedIP/blockedrange> being whitelisted. I'll update the docs.

The problem comes from Template:Logentry which has hardcoded settings. It's not something we can change from gerrit unless we rewrite the entire message. Maybe we can amend the template so it is more customizable. Ping @Nemo bis and Nikerabbit:.

I checked Wikipedia and ethnologue and they both say it's a basically dead language with no fluent speakers. This makes me doubt how are you able to translate MediaWiki which contains many technical terms to this language. Is there a standard orthography? We are having troubles with other languages here where there is no standard orthography and then translators are fighting with each other about correct spelling.

I completely understand your skepticism. The language is being revitalized, much like Manx or Cornish have been. There is a standard orthography, a textbook, children's books, and other materials. Information can be found at the University of Hawaii's Catalogue of Endangered Languages (elcat). The revitalization project, of which the Tunica-Biloxi tribe itself is the main driver, continues to gain momentum, and we have several editors up to the task, with over 50 years of combined experience with the language. We're eager to get started on translating.

Machine translations of User:Irus

Deflagged, rollbacks ongoing

This user massively uploads terrible machine translations, including to Russian language (which is stated as his "native language" on his userpage), see User talk:Irus and (for Russian-speaking users) [1]. All his edits must be rollbacked, his new pages (Wikimedia:Wikiedudashboard-articles.none/ru) must be deleted. His messages already displayed on Russian Wikipedia special pages, it's a clear vandalism. (If this page is not administrator's noticeboard of this project, please, move this thread to that page).

User:Nemo bis, what about reverting and deleting? I can do first, but I don't have rollbacker rights, can you grant it to me?

Deleting doesn't have any effect, you'd better retranslate any newly translated message which you think it worse than nothing. As for rollbacks, are you sure everything needs to be rolled back? How many messages did you check? I can make you sysop temporarily, but tell me how much time you need.

Until all his new messages are re-translated, English versions are much better then Irus's versions. I sure that many of his edits need to be rolled back, maybe all /ru-edits. I check many of his /ru-edits and almost all of this is nightmare horror. I think this weekend will be sufficient.

Ok. If you can't check every single translation before rolling back, try at least to sample them. Sometimes, or in some message groups, there might have been some logic.

Deletions don't have any effect because FuzzyBot will reimport the exported translations on the very next day. One would need to first remove the translations with a patch to the MediaWiki extension or other project. It's vastly faster to retranslate.

Former WMF app now community-maintained, where to crowdsource localization?

Wikimedia Commons' Android app used to be maintained by the WMF, and localization was done here at translatewiki.net (as can be seen here).

The WMF abandoned the Commons app in 2014 and I am now maintaining it (I am only a normal Commons user). I would like to allow users to improve the localizations, as they have not been updated since 2014.

QUESTION: Should I create the localization project on a third-party tool like Crowdin? Or can I somehow "resurrect" the app's localization project here, even though the app is now community-maintained rather than an official WMF app?

If the repository is active, the project can certainly be re-enabled here. These days are quite busy, you may want to send a patch against the "translatewiki" repository in gerrit yourself.

It doesn't matter whether the app is community maintained or not. What is important that the translations end up in front of the users, i.e. for mobile apps there needs to be regular releases.

I want to publish the translatewiki URL to our users, but where does the localization actually happen? A search does not show any active Commons Android project here.

Ok. [1] finds Translating:WLMMobile (not active yet), then there is Translating:WikimediaMobile for the "official" apps.

WLMMobile is a completely different app, with a different purpose (see wireframes), untouched since 2014, and we don't have strings in common.

Could you please create a new project called "Commons Android app" as a sub-project of "Wikimedia Mobile Apps"? I have read https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:New_project and we seem to fit :-) Thanks a lot!

Yes, https://github.com/nicolas-raoul/apps-android-commons is the canonical repository. @siebrand is already a committer. I have invited @yuvipanda and @Nikerabbit for committer access and I am waiting for them to accept the invitation. The app has been released already: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.free.nrw.commons I have signed a contract with WMF allowing me to use the official "Wikimedia Commons" brand name and logo.

Are you waiting for any action on our side? We did everything you asked for, what is blocking? More and more users are asking us where to localize the app, and it is a shame that we have no URL to give them. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon, cheers!

Plural in pt and pt-BR should be:

1 = single,
everything else = plural.

In particular, 0 should be plural. There have been various requests to fix it for pt and pt-BR in the past.

Despite the above fixes, the problem seems to have resurfaced at translatewiki.net, both for pt and pt-BR. This can be replicated by setting your language to either and then searching a non-existing string in Special:SearchTranslations. It yields: "Foi encontrado um resultado" (one result found), for both languages. {{PLURAL}} is again returning false for number 0, which should be plural.

May this have a local cause and fix, or should it be reported in Phabricator?

That could be it. It's been interpreted in another language as "Add referenced revisions from this revision, onwards" which could "make sense" for both strings also.

I think we should confirm something here, per Translatewiki.net languages#Enabling a new language for localisation at translatewiki.net:

A language code from ISO 639-3 or the Ethnologue website (for example 'de'): hoc
The language name in English and in its own language (for example 'German – Deutsch (de)'):
In English: Ho

(And what's the autonym of it?)
Is the language RTL or LTR (written from right to left or left to right): Clearly LTR
If the language is commonly written in more than one script, please say in which script the language should be enabled...
Devanagari is always OKay as a number of modern OSes & browsers are having its support, not sure if Warang Citi (ISO 15924 Wara) could also be added or not, do you have a font for Wara?
(For MediaWiki) Should the language fall back to another language other than English? If so which?

By this answer of 4th question, is this means that only Wara should be used? Or should be 1st Wara then 2nd Deva? This is so important because I've judged incubator:Wp/hoc, many contents are still Devanagari? Things should be decided here now, as changing it after decision, even possible, could be hard due to Wikidata compatibility (IMHO).

That is because there is no available input method for Warang Chiti. Most Ho language books are printed in Warang Chiti. Nowadays it is quite rare to see Ho language printed in Devanagri or any other script. Maybe we should wait till we have proper input methods. Also, Devanagri is seen as a foreign script by the Ho people because it contains so many sounds that are not present in Ho and lacks the most common sounds of Ho language.

If you feel that the Ho language should be enabled in both the scripts, then its okay.

This message states "The value you specified is not a number.".

In languages that use a decimal comma, not a decimal point, "0,1" is a number. Yet, this is not considered by the software. For example, in the VIPS Test page of the portuguese wikipedia, a sharpness value of "0,8" yields the error message.

Is this a software issue on some pages (the software supposedly handles localisation of number formats) or can we just diverge locally and adapt the message for our language to suggest that the user tries the non-standard decimal point?
