The #Trumpadministration has a new strategy for deflecting concerns about the warming planet. #Trump officials are minimizing warnings from scientists by arguing they are exaggerated and based on the worst-case scenario. They say the National Climate Assessment (NCA) - an expansive federal government report on the dangers of climate change in the US - considers only the highest possible levels of greenhouse gas emissions. Trump said he did not believe #climatechange would have economic consequences for the US.

Global atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations appear to be the highest they have been in 3m years, and continued carbon growth is likely lead to carbon levels not seen in tens of millions of years. If humans greatly reduce the greenhouse gases spewing into the atmosphere, continuing warming will still pose wide-ranging dangers.

Leaders of the Group of 20 have found the minimum common ground to fix #globaleconomy after difficult, all-night talks in #Argentina, but only 19 of them agreed to support the Paris agreement on #climate. #UnitedStates President Donald #Trump diverged with his #G20 partners at the summit in capital, Buenos Aires, as he refused to back the global action on #climatechange and by watering down past pledges to fight trade protectionism. A final communique, adopted on Saturday (Dec 1), said all the other G20 members agreed to implement the 'irreversible' Paris Agreement while respecting different paces of economic development.

Next week will see thousands of people arrive in Katowice, #Poland, for the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on #ClimateChange, otherwise known as #COP24. Taking place between December 2 and 14, a lot is riding on the summit.

The Paris Agreement, reached at #COP21 in 2015, will loom large over events at Katowice. According to the United Nations, COP24 is important because this year marks the deadline agreed by signatories of the Paris Agreement to adopt a "work program for the implementation" of the commitments they made in 2015. Other commitments made in Paris include increasing financing for climate action and the development of 'national climate plans' by 2020.

Volume 2 of the 4th National Climate Assessment was released Friday and like the NATO report released in July, it tells of a frightening future if we don’t do what’s necessary to reduce our negative impact on the climate. The first volume of this report was released in November of 2017 a called the Climate Science Special Report (CSSR). While Volume 1 focused more on the science behind climate change and how it is physically affecting the earth and everything on it, this report focuses on the impact of the science and analysis presented in volume 1. On this episode of Lessons from the Screen, we are going to be diving into this report in our typical LftS fashion, breaking it down were we can and making it a bit more digestible while also opening up the lane for conversations. #freedomtrain #podcast #climate #nationalclimateassessment #nato #science
