Hello, dear reader. You need MultiDex but you also have minSdk < 21 and tired of slow builds? Google suggests to use productFlavors for that. But it's not a flavor in terms of product. googlePlayStore and amazonStore are flavors. paid...

+Walmyr Carvalho Hehe, ah... no. That's why it's "weekend edition": these are mostly family devices that I get to borrow for the afternoon when everybody is together.

Devices that are actually mine:

- Galaxy I5500: 1st from the right, came with Froyo but now has CM7 running very well. I use to test my app in "Ancient Era" Android (i.e., pre-Honeycomb).

- Galaxy Ace: 2nd, official Gingerbread. I used constantly, but now I'm waiting for a new battery from eBay. I may resell because the i5500 is a better test device (smaller, older, weaker, same version).

- Xperia Arc S: 4th. The most used device for testing. Officially, it can run ICS, but I have CM10 running very well on it. It is reasonably powered, a middle ground API version, and a screen (sw320dp) slightly under the 360dp that was (is?) the baseline these days (excellent for making sure your layouts have the right size before transitioning).

- Nexus 4: 6th, good because it has that odd smallest width of ~ 384dp instead of 360.

- Nexus 5: 7th. My previous phone, still have it. Works, but needs a power button replacement.

- Nexus 5X: 11th. Current phone. Bought it last Christmas while in the US.

I also have a Nexus 10 that is not in the picture. All others in the picture (Moto D3, Galaxy Nexus, S7, S5, S6 and G4) aren't mine... 😉

How to make your own File Templates in #AndroidStudio #AndroidDev

I have recently discovered something which is currently making my life easier at the moment: Custom file templates. What is a file template? A file template is a source file that already contains some code to get you started. In this example, we are going…

#AndroidDev  widget of the day is ContentLoadingProgressBar!

It sets a "wait time" before showing it as well as a minimum display time to prevent UI flashes. Make sure to give it a style, as in style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleLarge".

Making a smart UI is not always that hard!
