The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a codename

Last month, we told you that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 might be launched earlier than usual this year, perhaps by July or August. The Note 9 could carry a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The Snapdragon 845 mobile platform or the Exynos 9810 chipset should be under the hood, depending on location, and we could see 6GB of RAM inside along with 128GB of native storage. A 4,000mAh battery will keep the lights on, and we just might see the same dual camera setup (12MP +12MP) used on the Samsung Galaxy S9+. And the 8MP front-facing selfie snapper found on the Galaxy S9+ just might be part of the Galaxy Note 9 as well.

The latest information about the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was disseminated by tweet today from star leaker Evan Blass. According to Evan, the codename of the Galaxy Note 9 (wait for it) is Crown. And that is the perfect codename for the phone that will be the King of Samsung's 2018 smartphone lineup.

There is still much that we don't know about the Galaxy Note 9. For one thing, we could still see it hit the market with an under-display fingerprint scanner. Over the next few weeks, we should start to see a pick up in leaks about this phone, all of which just might explain why the Crown codename fits this device so well.

For Amazon’s latest hardware trick, the company has apparently been working on a home robot under the codename, “Vesta.” That nugget comes via Bloomberg sources, who report that the online retail giant expects to start trialing the device in employee homes this year, with plans to launch it to consumers as early as 2019. The project has apparently been in the works for a number of years, but things are finally starting to take off, as the company lists openings for a number of gigs in and around robotics, with titles like “Software Engineer, Robotics.” No word on precisely what such a robot would do, and Amazon, naturally, isn’t commenting.

Codename Android + Wifi fix - Nexus S I9023

Last time I tried to update my Nexus S to Android 4.0.3, it was quite a failure: due to the fact that I have a Mongolian SIM card, the wifi couldn't work anymore, so I switched back to Android 2.3.6.

Well, I decided to give it a new try, this time with the +Codename Android ROM.

Here is what I did (using Ubuntu Linux). Of course if you want to do it, you do it at your own risks, and I can't be held responsible for any bad thing you may do to your phone... WARNING, it'll wipe your personal settings/data/internal storage!


To install Codename Android
- Codename Android: http://goo.gl/i6DUx , I took the CodenameDroid-(MOD)1.4.0-NS.zip version
- Google Apps: http://goo.gl/KUlQi , I took the gapps_ics_270112.zip version
- http://sebeto.fr/android/utils.zip : adb and fastboot
- http://sebeto.fr/android/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3.img.zip : ClockWork Recovery


To fix the wifi problem (only for countries such as Mongolia)
- http://sebeto.fr/android/wifi_fix.zip
- Terminal emulator: https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm


Ready?
Enable USB Debugging on your phone (in the Developper Options), and if you are in one of the countries where there is the Wifi bug, remove your SIM card (if you are not sure, remove it, it won't do any bad thing).


Preparing the install
- Copy gapps_ics_270112.zip and CodenameDroid(MOD)1.4.0-NS.zip on your phone (root of the sd card)
- In a folder on Ubuntu, unzip utils.zip and recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3.img.zip
- Open a terminal, cd to this folder


Restarting the phone
- Power your phone down
- Connect it to your computer using the USB cable
- Start it again by holding Power button + Volume Up

Unlocking the bootloader
If your bootloader is locked (LOCK STATE - LOCKED on the screen)
- Type in the terminal on your computer: ./fastboot oem unlock
- Use volume Up/Down to move in the options
- Use Power button to accept
- The screen should show LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED


Installing ClockWork Recovery
- Type in the terminal: ./fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3.img
- Once done, select "Recovery" in the list by using Volume Up/Down, and accept with Power: the phone will boot in recovery mode


Flashing Codename Android
- Once in recovery, select "wipe", and then "wipe data/factory reset"
- Then "+++++Go back+++++"
- Select "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard"
- Choose "CodenameDroid(MOD)-1.4.0-NS.zip", apply
- Do the same for "gapps_ics_270112.zip"
- Go back to the main menu, and choose "reboot system now"

It can take some time, be patient...


Setting up your phone
- Fill in the information about your google account and so on
- Activate your wifi, and install "Android Terminal Emulator" from the market (https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm)
- Shutdown your phone, put your SIM card back in it


Checking if the wifi is still working
- Restart your phone, try to connect to the wifi. If you can't, it means that you are in one of the countries with the wifi bug.


Fixing the wifi
- Enable USB Debugging on your phone (in the Developper Options), deactivate the wifi
- Unzip wifi_fix.zip on your computer (in the same folder than adb)
- Connect your phone to your computer
- Open a terminal in your computer, cd to the folder, an type following commands:

./adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /system
exit
exit
./adb push sqlite3 /system/bin
./adb push mywifi /system/bin

./adb shell
su
chmod 700 /system/bin/mywifi
chmod 6755 /system/bin/sqlite3
reboot


Now, simply open "Terminal Emulator" on your phone (cf. screenshots), and type:

su
mywifi

Activate your wifi, it should work. Everytime that you reboot your phone, you just need to type the two previous lines in "Terminal emulator" to activate your wifi.
