Egyptian doctors are indoctrinated by families since a very young age to falsely believe that cold and drafts are major causes of diseases, the fact they don’t read 1 word about this in medical school doesn’t seem to teach them that it’s not true! It’s like a religious belief!

But seriously, the movie captures the dread of both faith and its loss. It is a visual reminder of how God departed his creation without a certain promise of return or a hint of his plans. Humans await in fear and possibly in vain.

Saw the new Paul Schrader movie "First Reformed". It is a powerful and grim movie. Most amusing is the post-movie Q&A where the director tried to explain Calvinism to the denizens of the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

"Unto Death" facilitated one young man's understanding of as more than a temporary enemy and showed a way to escape the iron boots of identity as a persecuted minority into a larger universal canvas. May he rest in peace.

Sad to hear of Amos Oz passing. He was a great man of courage. He literally changed his name for that. But he held a deeper meaning for this former who never met him.
