The Beresheet is then assigned catalog D01020 in my catalog of artificial objects in deep space (which I promise to publish later this year!)

Beresheet's latest perigee burn, at 1311 UTC Mar 7, reported boosted the apogee to about 270 000 km which would require about a 130 m/s burn. At around 0545 UTC Mar 8 it will pass the 146000 km altitude I used to mark deep space missions

Successful manuever! Apogee now expected at about 270,000 km! Thruster worked for 152 sec at 15:11 Israeli time.

One more SSO-A object identified: 2018-099B is SIRION PATHFINDER 2, an IoT relay satellite from Helios Wire and Sirion. That leaves 12 tracked objects from the launch without IDs.

It's not technically incorrect, just very misleading. I think it's worth making clear this is their space launch site.

How far do you go? The worst case is that KJU is really a Skrull and the NK state is a cover for an alien invasion. I can't disprove that, although I do find it unlikely.

My problem with the worst case modelling is that in the US defense world it always always slides from "If you want to be really paranoid, they *could* be doing X" to "We think they are definitely doing X" based on zero evidence. All the history here makes me think 'not X'.

Seems to be true of our broader culture generally. Our collective sense of humour seems to have atrophied. But I'm glad to say I still have plenty of friends who make fun of my strongly held and clearly correct space opinions in a good way.

My "clearly" was wrong here, given the info that the construction started before the summit.

A little low for graveyard orbit - only 202 km above GEO so far compared to the recommended 300 km

History. Different pads are designed for different rockets. We know the history of this pad.

Rocket better than 'missile' for sure, but I would prefer 'space rocket' here. I don't know as much about what the engine test stand has been used for.

No ballistic missiles have ever been launched from the launch pad at Sohae/Tongchang-ri. It has only ever been used for satellite launches. The activity happening at Sohae now, while unfortunate, only shows construction going on, not anything that would indicate test prep.

I think it's a distraction to worry about it. The Hwasong-15 is a real ICBM and we should be very worried about that. Although not insanely worried, I also believe their program is a deterrent against US invasion, not a sign of an intention for first strike.
