Stop Four on Day Two was a visit overlooking the Gaza Strip, home to close to 2 million Palestinians. Over the past many years, Hamas terrorists have launched home-made rockets onto nearby Israeli settlement and the city of Sderot, home to 20,000 Israelis.

Dr. Dahlia Scheindlin, a pollster and political analyst, briefed us on the functioning of the Knesset. There have been dozens of political parties since the state's creation, and no single party has ever achieved majority. Thus, every government has been a coalition government.

Stopped at the world-class winery, Barkan Winery. The brand is owned by Tempo, whose CEO, Jacqui Ber, took us on a personal tour, along with his senior executives. Barkan (and its sister brand, Segal), has 2,500 acres under cultivation across the country.

We met with one of Israel's finest journalists, Avi Isacharoff, a noted correspondent for the Times of Israel. On the side, Avi and his co-creative partner Lior Raz, created the international TV sensation and Netflix run-away hit TV show, "Fauda".

Our long, but very productive first day in Israel was topped-off by a dinner briefing with Dan Shapiro, former US ambassador to Israel under President Obama. He is widely recognized as a particularly astute observer of the US-Israel relationship.

Met with Alan P. Gross, who talked about his 5-year ordeal as a political prisoner in Cuba. Alan is a supporter of my campaign, and I truly appreciate his kind words: "David Trone has always stood up for what is right."

We spent an incredible 90 minutes at The Bridge learning about Israel's start-up culture and how Israel is a global leader in high-tech innovations. It is a unique seven-month Commercialization Program for startups, acting as a bridge between Israel and all major global markets.

We visited Israel's Independence Hall, in Tel Aviv, where Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, declared the establishment of the new nation. We listened to the historic recording of that moment, which was followed by the playing of Israel's national anthem, Hatikva.

This week my wife June and I are visiting Israel. One of the highlights of our first day was a visit to the Hand in Hand school, in Jaffa. Unlike the vast majority of Israeli public schools, here, Jewish and Arab Israeli children learn and play together.

Thank-you to the Cumberland Times-News for the great coverage of our opioid community service event. This issue could not be more urgent or crucial. Every day we do not act, more lives will be lost to this epidemic.

How many of our brave officers have to die before President Trump and Speaker Ryan will do more than just talk about common sense gun safety laws? How many more of our children?

It's the responsibility of elected leaders to leave the world a better place for the next generation. But since they're failing miserably to fulfill that responsibility, the next generation is taking matters into their own hands.

Gabe Juedemann, one of our all-star interns in Hagerstown, was profiled in the Herald-Mail. We're proud of Gabe for everything he's accomplished and can't wait to see what the future holds for him.

Keeping guns out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers is just common sense. I’ve pledged to fight for this in Congress, and I’m glad that Frederick Delegate Carol Krimm is working pass it in Annapolis.

150,000 students have experienced the trauma of a shooting since Columbine. Protecting our children is one of the most basic things that government should do. If Congress won’t do their job, then it’s time to replace them with leaders who will.

Pharmaceutical companies misled doctors and patients about the risks of becoming addicted to opioids. I’m glad to see County Executive Ike Leggett is fighting to make sure they’re held accountable.

Prevention is one of the most important steps we can take to combat the opioid epidemic. That's why I'm proud to be working with EverFI to bring prescription drug safety education into Maryland high schools.

And now Parkland. Enough is enough. Congress needs to step up and do its job.
