You know you could move out of the box into a pet friendly flat?

You could probably do the same for properties, but at that point your macro is limited to constructing Gtk objects directly. I'm doing a virtual DOM thing.

I had a type checked version of signal handlers at some point, but I got rid of it for various reasons, chief among them that there's a Redux like system on top of it where those arguments are rather pointless.

Yes, this is all runtime typed in Gtk, so if you set the wrong property it'll fail at runtime.

If by "magic trait" you mean it has to be a Gtk widget, then yeah, the latter.

In hindsight I guess the title “Hackers and Painters” is super-redundant.

Nope, I never even saw those. Not sure I'm even subtweeting anyone in particular, just maybe cautioning against a trend tipping too far before it does.

Note to self: remember to go set up that Euro savings account today while there's still time before the Brexit summit tomorrow.

Honestly, nothing breaks my heart more than "software engineers" vehemently denying that their code could be art.

But that doesn't make the counter argument of "how dare you suggest code doesn't have to make me feel as miserable as it does" any more valid. There really is joy and art to be found in programming. You don't have to go looking for it, but also pls stop telling others they can't.

I mean, let's not get into the supreme irony of this old white dude who's done so much to keep the machinery of miserable enterprise development going talking about code as art. In his world, he's probably Michelangelo taking commissions to paint the drab ceilings of corp HQs.

All I want to say is that in your rush to condemn the old white dude for his gatekeeping language, can you please take care not to come off sounding like you're also taking a shit on people who actually write code as art? Because that's a real thing some people do. Thanks.
