Several of us are environmental activists and two are journalists [our FACT checkers]. All of us are former scientists.

We believe that today in Trump's America, science and the environment have a place at the forefront of society and policy.

Several of us advised in the creation and running of this 'Alt' account following discussions a few days ago.

Hello all! We have taken over the group and will continue to run this account, advocating scientific and environmental interests.

You have the power, the authority, and the resources to make the best of our country and this world. Don't squander it.

Climate change is real, Trump. You gotta deal with it now, or have the problems it creates be your legacy, for now & future generations.

To all our colleagues. We've heard the jokes going round. You'll never know but we're glad to have brought some laughter at this time.

But we are assured & comforted that those taking over will not identify us to the media. We asked to remain unknown & they have promised.

It's too easy to expose ourselves & enjoy the 30 minutes of applause before the eventual repercussions. We haven't slept much this week.

The individuals taking over come from various countries, but all have a science background & are fearful about a Trump administration.

We'd like to thank the anonymous members of the Reddit community who helped us get the ball rolling & assist with a safe transfer of control

As such, we are handing control of this account over to several activists & journalists who believe they can continue in the same spirit.

They haven't won & we haven't lost., & you have proven that this country believes in the serious work undertaken by our scientists.

But we cannot escape the pressure that the popularity of this account has brought on our colleagues. It's selfish to continue ourselves.

The past few days have proven the immense belief & support this country has in our national parks, environment and scientific departments.

We have decided to pass over control of this account to individuals outside of government employment for the sake of our colleagues.

We cannot confirm which species has the smallest hands. New specimens are being found daily by scientists around the world.
