Cooperation & Support

Many countries are vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change in large part because they lack the domestic resources to support projects and innovations that would, for example, help stave off agricultural disasters or ease the transition to a clean energy economy. Financial, technical, and other support to countries whose economies are developing or in transition is crucial to helping them address the adaptation and mitigation issues acknowledged in the Convention. The magnitude of need requires close cooperation between developing and developed countries, as stated in the Commitments section of the Convention (Article 4).

Information can be found below about various forms of support, including the Global Environment Facility, which serves as the Convention's Financial Mechanism, or primary funding source.

	Climate Finance This section covers issues relating to the intergovernmental process on climate finance, including guidance to the operating entities of the Financial Mechanism under the Convention. Information regarding the long-term finance work programme can be found here. The Finance Portal is the newest addition to the section and contains data on financing provided and received under the Convention.
	Technology The Technology section has links to the Convention's technology clearing house information system (TT:CLEAR), and to work done by the SBI and the SBSTA on technology development and transfer and implementation of the Technology Mechanism (Decision 1/CP.16), including through the Technology Executive Committee (TEC).
	Least Developed Countries The Least Developed Country (LDC) page provides links to information that is of specific interest for LDCs, such as work on National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPA), and the work of the LDC Expert Group (LEG), which are contained in other parts of the UNFCCC website, as well as to relevant information on selected external websites.
	Education and Outreach This section provides information on the intergovernmental process on climate change education and training; raising public awareness on, fostering public participation in, and ensuring public access to information on climate policy-making and actions; as well as on international cooperation on these matters (Article 6 of the Convention). This includes information on the Doha work programme on Article 6, the annual in-session Dialogue on Article 6 under the SBI, the Climate Change Information Network Clearinghouse CC:iNet and the UN Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness.
	Response Measures This section provides information relating to the impact of the implementation of response measures undertaken in the context of the implementation of climate change mitigation activites. The Convention and its Kyoto Protocol commit Parties to minimize adverse economic, social and environmental impacts on developing countries when responding to climate change.
	Capacity-building This section provides information on the intergovernmental process on capacity-building for climate change action, the Durban Forum on Capacity-building and the Capacity-building Portal.
	Cooperation with International Organizations Cooperation with International Organizations, such as with scientific bodies, UN agencies and other conventions, is an important and essential dimension of the implementation of the Convention.
	Activities Implemented Jointly A pilot phase of activities implemented jointly (AIJ) was launched in 1995 under which Annex I Parties may implement projects in other countries that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases or enhance their removal through sinks. AIJ under the pilot phase are undertaken on a voluntary basis.
	Market and non-market mechanisms This section provides information on recent progress made under the Convention on the elaboration of a framework for various approaches, a new market-based mechanism and non-market-based approaches.
