The OPNFV test bed project "Pharos" is a federated NFV testing infrastructure of community labs around the world designed for hosting continuous integration, deployment, and testing of the OPNFV platform. The diversity of perspectives across developers, users and vendors participating in these labs make the project critical to the success of the OPNFV platform.

Project Goals:
- Facilitate collaborative testing across scenarios that conform to a baseline OPNFV specification (compute, network and storage requirements)
- Provide developers with substantial resources for early testing within realistic NFV environments via an open, consistent, repeatable test domain
- Help ensure OPNFV applicability across architectures, environments and vendors through a collection of diverse labs and a broad range of hardware
- Help create more robust, interoperable releases
Progress To Date:
- The Pharos Project includes 11 existing member company labs spanning North America, Europe and Asia
- The Linux Foundation hosts an OPNFV infrastructure lab used primarily for continuous integration (CI), build and release deployment/testing
- Pharos was instrumental for deployment and testing of all releases (Arno and Brahmaputra)
Pharos Enhancements as of Brahmaputra:
The Pharos test lab project has made significant enhancements, including stronger specification and lab governance. For the Brahmaputra release, several Pharos community labs provided release validation on addition to the OPNFV bare metal lab hosted by the Linux Foundation. A list of labs involved in Brahmaputra includes: China Mobile in Beijing, Dell in Santa Clara, Ericsson in Montreal, Huawei in Santa Clara and Xi’an, Intel in Portland, Orange in Paris and Lannion, Spirent in San Jose and ZTE in Nanjing. Use of federated community labs not only helps ensure diverse hardware with which to test the release, but enables significant scaling for the project as it continues to grow.
In The Works:
- New member test labs
- Automated deployment and testing
- Reservation system that outlines how users can access code
- Specifications for virtual environments of different size and scale
