My Background
Since beginning work on the web in 1997, I’ve seen the transition from table-based layouts, to cascading stylesheets, to mobile-friendly web design.
My first website was my church’s website, which I coded in Notepad. I loved creating websites and quickly expanded my web knowledge. Soon after, I was creating sites for nonprofits, small businesses, and consultants.
When I reached the point of wanting more formal web education, I returned to college and earned certificates in web technology, web application development, and web user experience.
I worked in higher education for four years, as web developer and web analyst on the web services team at Washtenaw Community College, helping to improve the user experience and accessibility of the college website.
I’m an organizer for three meetup groups: Detroit User Experience, Metro Detroit WordPress Meetup, and Refresh Detroit. From 2008 to 2011, I was a boardmember of the Michigan Usability Professionals’ Association.
When I’m not on the computer, I can be found reading, shooting photos, bicycling, or bird watching.
