What you need to know about Google’s “Fred” update [INFOGRAPHIC]

by Tori Tsu
Tori Tsu

Google rolls out algorithm updates all the time — around 500 to 600 every year. These changes are all part of an on-going effort to fight spammers and penalize websites that use prohibited SEO tactics to improve search rankings. Most of the updates are small, but some are more extreme and can have a severe impact on a website’s rankings.

Using your website to generate leads [CASE STUDY: Nacho Average Voice]

Business overview

After growing disenchanted with her office job, Kristen Udowitz set out to start her own business. She took an inventory of her skills and interests and researched potential careers. Eventually, she discovered voiceover work.

While still working her day job, she spent her free time researching how the voiceover industry operated. She cold-called companies and went on auditions. A few clients took a chance on her, then a few more.

Twenty years later, Udowitz has built a company, Nacho Average Voice, with a client list that includes Fortune 500 companies and popular cable networks.

The situation

Though her company was growing, the one thing Udowitz hadn’t accomplished in 20 years was updating her website. When potential clients found her online, they were greeted by a layout and images cobbled together in the mid-1990s. Not that many people could find her website, since dormant pages never rank high on search engines. Udowitz wanted to drive more traffic to her site and hoped that a redesign could bring in more leads and more business.

With the help of her husband, she tried to rebuild the site on her own. The results were adequate, but nothing that would impress potential clients.

“I wanted the site to look fresh, hip and cool,” Udowitz said. “Everything we tried, it just looked like we did it ourselves.”

The plan

She ultimately accepted the need for professional help, and enlisted Deluxe to create a new website. After learning what Udowitz needed from her site, the team customized a plan that focused on:

  1. Giving prospective clients the ability to sample her voice work
  2. Showcasing her high-profile client list
  3. Making it possible to find information right away without having to search or deal with technical delays
  4. Ensuring the site was mobile-responsive, since many prospects find voice talent using smartphones and tablets

The process

Because of Udowitz’s unique business needs, Deluxe recommended a custom website. The company’s experienced team of website designers and programmers were then able to start with a blank slate. Collaborating with Udowitz, the team created three designs for her to choose from, then refined the site until it looked and functioned exactly the way she wanted.

The results

By working with Deluxe, Udowitz was able to build an attractive, functional website that makes a professional first impression. Whether they’re using a PC, tablet or smartphone, prospects visiting Udowitz’s website can instantly listen to samples of her voice work and view a list of her clients.

“I’m so proud of it, every time it comes up on my screen,” said Udowitz.

Your website should evolve as your business does, so redesigns are a natural and important part of maintaining your online presence. If your website is outdated or isn’t attracting search traffic, the experts at Deluxe will work with you to customize a redesign plan that delivers the results you’re looking for.

May 26, 2017

Unclaimed security deposit funds can cost property managers valuable time. Fielding questions about lost checks, accounting for money owed to former residents and tracking down forwarding addresses can strain resources.

Property managers are now using emailable checks to streamline their processes. The eChecks offered by Deluxe — an established provider of business checks with more than a century of experience — can be created, sent and retrieved electronically. They’re as secure as paper checks and more affordable than other instant payment options like ACH. Anyone with an email address and a printer can receive, print and cash an eCheck.

Deluxe’s guide to online marketing and promotion for the restaurant industry [PLAYBOOK]

by Amber Humphrey
Amber Humphrey

Around 60 percent of restaurants fail in the first year. It’s a rough statistic but one all restaurant owners have to contend with. And while there are clearly cases where that failure is the result of poor service and food, top-notch eateries often flounder because they don’t stand out in the eyes or minds of potential diners.

To attract customers, you have to distinguish yourself from the crowd. In today’s digital culture, that means marketing your business online. If your restaurant isn’t generating the results you’d like to see, or if you simply want to give your business a boost (and who doesn’t?), you need to ask yourself one important question: Am I doing enough to promote my restaurant on the web?

by Amber Humphrey
Amber Humphrey

If managing your company payroll is a complicated or stressful process, you’re not alone. According to a survey by the National Small Business Association, payroll taxes are small businesses’ most burdensome tax both financially and administratively. Although outsourcing payroll offers considerable relief, many small business owners continue to process their payroll in-house with accounting software like QuickBooks. It is possible to handle payroll on your own, but doing so often isn’t the best solution. As you weigh your options, consider the benefits of using a payroll service:
