September 2018 Stamp and Die Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

September 12, 2018 By Lilith Eeckels in 2018 September Release, Blog Hop, Daily Inspiration, Layouts, Video Tutorials 106 Comments Tags: Bountiful Branch Stamp set, Celebrate You, Christmas Stockings, Creative Edges Evergreen Die, For All Seasons, Starry Night

Welcome to the September 2018 Holiday Stamp and Die Release Blog Hop + Giveaway. If you have hopped over from Paige Evans‘s blog, then you are right on track. The full blog hop list can be found at the end of this post.

I created several projects with the new products. My first one is a layout which doesn’t have a holiday theme to it. I wanted to show that some of the holiday stamps can be used for scrapbooking everyday moments. Using the same color combination, I created a couple of Christmas cards as well.

@lilitheeckels

@lilitheeckelsFor my layout, I used the Bountiful Branch Stamp Set and used yellow, blue, and green shades to create a stamped background.

@lilitheeckelsI created some embellishment pieces using the Dot Labels Stamp and Die Set as well as the Circled Sentiments Stamp and Die Set. I used the same inks that I used for the branches. This keeps everything cohesive. For the title, I used the For All Seasons Stamp Set and paired it with a tiny bit of journaling. For the patterned paper, I used the paper pad from the Celebrate You Kit.

@lilitheeckelsYou can see how the layout came together in the video below or watch it in HD on YouTube.

For my cards I used:

  • Starry Night Stamp and Die Set
  • Creative Edges – Evergreen Die
  • Christmas Stockings Stamp and Die Set

@lilitheeckelsOn the first card, I embossed the tree from the Starry Night Stamp Set and added several rows of trees using the Creative Edges -Evergreen Die.

@lilitheeckelsFor the next card, I stamped three stockings using the Christmas Stockings Stamp Set and cut them out with the coordinating dies.

@lilitheeckelsHow cute are those stockings?! Even non-conventional colors work great with them!

How to Create a Fun Brag Book

September 6, 2018 By Kymona Tracey in Daily Inspiration, Mini Album 4 Comments Tags: Our Family Collection

Hello, everyone!

Kymona here to show you how to create a fun brag book.

Let’s take a look:

Our Family

I love brag books! It’s an opportunity to show off your best self, LOL! Creating them is very easy and simple.

Here’s how this brag book was created:

Cut a piece of Altenew Our Family cardstock to 7 5/8 by 7 5/8.

Use the envelope punch board to create a envelope for the base of the brad book.

Cut another piece of Altenew Our Family cardstock to 4.25 by 12 twice.

Score both pieces at 4.25 for the length of the cardstock.

Fold and adhere the two pieces of cardstock together to form an accordion fold.

Tape one end of the cardstock to the base of the brad book.

Add journaling text and four photos to the accordion fold pages.

Our Family

Close up the brad book and close it with hoop and loop tabs.

Our Family

Decorate the front of the book with Our Family Chipboard Alphabet Stickers.

Our Family

Nice and easy.

So, what do you think? Will you create your own brag book? I would love to hear from you!

September Guest Designer: Raquel Bowman

September 5, 2018 By Altenew in Daily Inspiration, Guest Designer, Layouts 3 Comments Tags: Build A Flower Larkspur, Fabulous Floral, Mega Alphabet, our family scrapbook collection, Reflection Scrapbook Collection, Watercolor Frames

Hello, lovely ladies! We are so thrilled to have an amazing Guest Designer this month!

Today, we would like to introduce the incredibly talented Raquel Bowman. Her layouts are pretty, neat, and she enjoys adding little details to them. We are totally amazed at how she creatively used our products. You will absolutely love what she has prepared for you here on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog. But, first, let’s learn more about her!

Get to know Raquel!

Hey everyone, my name is Raquel Bowman. I am a 30 something primary school teacher, mummy to two kiddies (Jack, 4, and Charlotte, nearly 6) and wife to Clint, living in Geelong in Australia. I admit, I am pretty obsessed with scrapbooking and love nothing more than playing with a variety of papers and embellishments and making pretty stuff. I have been scrapping for around fourteen years now and feel I have finally ‘found’ my style. I’m a lover of layers, cut files, and clusters and enjoy adding little details while still maintaining white space, balance and a cleanliness to my layouts. I am so grateful and honored to be able to represent some amazing brands and companies I love through this craft.

Raquel’s “Totally Rad” Scrapbook Layout

For my first project today, I’m sharing a layout that features the Reflection Scrapbook Collection and some of the Mega Alphabet Dies available in the Altenew store. I wanted to use the mega alpha dies (originally intended for a birthday banner) in a different way on my layout. So I cut out the word “rad” and used it as a main feature on my page.

The subject of my layout is my little man Jack. The Reflection Scrapbook Collection can lend itself to more feminine layouts so I wanted to challenge myself by creating a page of my little man and draw the more masculine colors from the kit. I decided to print my photo in black and white so it didn’t compete with the colors of the layout. I wanted to add a splattery frame to the photo so I used the Watercolor Frames Stamp Set and some of the Jet Black Ink to add extra detail.

To back the die-cut letters ‘rad‘ I used some black cardstock. Black is a great choice to add a touch of masculinity to a page but also to help make an aspect of a page really pop. That is what it has achieved on this layout. I complemented the word “rad” with the word “totally” spelled out from the alphabet stickers in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection.

I had not used the cut animal wood veneer pieces in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection so this layout was the perfect opportunity to use some of them to embellish the page. So, so cute!

I am a big documenter on my scrapbook pages and it is rare to see a layout that I have made without some kind of journaling. I added the journaling for this layout using my typewriter and cutting it into strip form.

To finish this layout, I have added a few embellishments found in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection, including the chipboard pieces and wood veneer epoxy buttons. I love that I was able to document about my son and his ‘excess energy’ using this kit and its complementing products. So versatile!

Raquel’s “You are Fabulous” Card

For my second project today I decided to create a card. I have begun of late to create more and more cards using excess items in my stash or just to play with something new I may have received. Creating cards is a nice way to have that bit of a creative outlet without requiring too much of my time, a practice great for mental health.

Here is the card which I created:

To create this card, I have used a couple of my favorite stamp sets and my all-time favorite scrapbooking kit, the Our Family Scrapbook Collection. I absolutely adored the floral image in the Build-A-Flower: Larkspur and knew I wanted to have a play with it again for this card.

To support the floral image, I chose to fussy cut some leaves from one of the floral papers in the kit. I also ended up cutting out a floral build and some more leaf clusters to layer behind the main stamped larkspur flower. I stamped the larkspur flower in Jet Black Ink onto a watercolor look patterned paper. This meant I did not need to color in the image or add any of the layers originally intended for this stamp design. I love being able to change the way I use products and get more out of a design. Stamping just the outlined image of the larkspur is a way to do just that.

The frame die in the Our Family Scrapbook Collection enabled me to add a pop of yellow to the card. I layered that along with some of the patterned papers in the kit and a doily on the base of the card.

Choosing the perfect sentiment for a card is always important. I could not go past the ‘you are fabulous’ stamps from the Fabulous Floral Stamp Set. This sentiment, stamped out and layered onto a tag from my stash, was the finishing touch I was looking for.

I hope that you were inspired and enjoyed my Guest Designer projects here on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog today.

~Raquel xxx

Video: Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set

Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set @altenewllc @ziniaredo #ziniaredo #altenew #scrapbook #scrapbooking

Hello, Altenew fans!

It’s Zinia here with another bright and fun scrapbook layout idea. For this design, I’m using one of my favorite Altenew stamp sets, Floral Art. I really love the abstract and artsy look of this stamp set so I decided to take it to the next level by pairing it with some messy coloring using the new Watercolor 36 Pan Set.

Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set @altenewllc @ziniaredo #ziniaredo #altenew #scrapbook #scrapbookingI started by stamping my floral outlines in Permanent Black Ink. I knew I was going to add watercolors on top so I wanted to make sure I used a waterproof ink. I used the medium watercolor palette to smoosh some inks and water them down so I can use them as watercolors. I added a very light layer of watered-down inks just as a base. Then I pulled my Watercolor 36 Pan Set to build up more layers.

Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set @altenewllc @ziniaredo #ziniaredo #altenew #scrapbook #scrapbookingOnce my flowers were dry, I die cut them with my Mini Blossom Die Cutting Machine and they were ready to go.

Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set @altenewllc @ziniaredo #ziniaredo #altenew #scrapbook #scrapbookingTo assemble my page, I added a strip of coral cardstock at the side of my layout and then I used the Floral Shadow Stamp Set to add a little bit more interest to my background. I stamped the images in a light gray color on top of the white cardstock and with Coral Bliss Crisp Dye ink on top of the coral piece.

Messy Watercolor Layout using Floral Art Stamp Set @altenewllc @ziniaredo #ziniaredo #altenew #scrapbook #scrapbookingThen I just built up my floral cluster along the line that the two cardstock colors meet and finished off the page by adding a photo and a title.

Video: Mixed Media with Deco Wallpaper Stencil

September 3, 2018 By Lilith Eeckels in Daily Inspiration, Layouts, Video Tutorials 4 Comments Tags: Mixed Media, Thinking of you die, Watercolor Pan Set

Welcome to a new post here on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog. Today I’ll be sharing a mixed media project which was inspired by an FB Live I did on August 27th. You can watch it HERE.

I created a fun background for a layout which I finished after the live session. I thought it would be nice to create a card to match and use the same techniques.

@lilitheeckelsHere is a closer look at the layout.

@lilitheeckels

@lilitheeckelsSupplies you will need:

  • Gesso
  • Patterned paper
  • Paper from an old book
  • A palette knife
  • Altenew Watercolor 36 Pan Set
  • Permanent Black Ink
  • Some stamps (text stamps, leaves, flowers)
  • Watercolor paper

This is the card I made inspired by my layout.

@lilitheeckels @lilitheeckels @lilitheeckelsHow to:

  1. Apply a layer of gesso onto your watercolor cardstock.
  2. Tear pages and add to the cardstock, adding a thin layer of gesso over them using the palette knife.
  3. Pop the stencil on top and add more gesso. Remove the stencil and wash immediately.
  4. Let the gesso dry. I usually leave it to dry for a couple of hours but you can speed up the process with a heatgun.
  5. Apply watercolors.
  6. Leave to dry.
  7. Stamp in some spots to add detail.
  8. Add your sentiment. I used the Thinking of You Die.

You can watch how I created the card in the video below or watch it in HD on YouTube. I did have some issues with my camera and couldn’t film the assembling of the card but you can see how I created the background.

Thank you so much for stopping by.
