If you are interested in a career working specifically with young children with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs or with children who may be at risk for developmental delays, then this certificate is a great place to start.

This course will be of interest to those with an interest in working with children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities in a school or educational setting and/or who wish to develop their skills and knowledge to a higher level to develop career opportunities or progress to an undergraduate degree. This foundation degree course is run in conjunction with Bishop Grosseteste University.

About this course This qualification is designed to enable learners to develop their skills to communicate with Deaf people in a variety of everyday situations. It will allow you to participate in more varied conversations than at Level 1. It will also develop skills to use BSL to communicate in real-life situations as well as routine and daily experiences. You will also develop an understanding of grammar to cope with some non-routine communication.

The Advanced Certificate Program in Autism consists of 12 credits (four 3-credit courses). The coursework and fieldwork opportunities will reflect a range of educational approaches and services available for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The approach is eclectic and will include, but not be limited to, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), natural learning paradigms, relationship-based developmental models, and common practices of teaching in the field of ASD. Various philosophical, educational, psychological, and clinical paradigms will be incorporated. Throughout the curriculum, whenever appropriate, the counseling needs of families with individuals with ASD will also be addressed. We will also critically evaluate controversial popular but unproven alternative treatments. The curriculum will consist of lectures by faculty, readings of the professional literature, in-class discussions (with faculty and students), on-site observations, and fieldwork under close.

The courses in the Disability Management Practitioner Certificate Program may be taken independently or as a complete 25-course program. These courses emphasize the skills and knowledge required to return to work individuals who have incurred injuries or illnesses and provide an introduction to the competencies that are required to introduce and administer disability management programs. Those students wishing to obtain the Certificate of Completion for the entire program and who have previous education in a particular course subject area may apply to obtain an exemption or prior learning assessment credit. The Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development offers a Graduate Certificate program for qualified post-baccalaureate students in Autism and Emotional/Behavioral Disorders. This program has two tracks, one leading to an Autism Endorsement from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (pending approval).

The Deafblind & Intervenor Studies program is a one-year certificate that will prepare you to work with individuals who have combined vision and hearing loss. Significant components of this program are delivered online. This program is open to both Deaf and non-Deaf students.

Throughout this qualification, you will gain an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways, as well as exploring the importance of using a person-centred approach to provide support.

Basic Conversational SASL is a comprehensive and fun course to learn about basic South African Sign Language. In this course, you will be introduced to Deaf culture, basic vocabulary and sentence exercises.
