Simple Stories: Smile!

I love a good ‘Before’ and ‘After’ sequence of photos, and while today’s photos don’t show a dramatic difference, getting your braces off is always an exciting day for a teenager. My husband snapped these silly photos of my daughter at her LAST orthodontist appointment and I thought they were definitely worthy of a scrapbook page. Ha!

I’m working with the Simple Stories ‘For the Record’ collection again, but this time I decided to focus on the softer shades of the collection by pulling out mint and blush for the main colors.

I placed my photos in opposite corners of the cream ledger paper, with the office visit photos in the upper-left corner, and the posed photos of my daughter in the bottom-right.

To differentiate the photos, I matted both ‘Before’ photos in each group with Orange Color Vibe cardstock. The ‘After’ photos are matted with Dandelion cardstock.

Lots of florals from the Floral Bits pack add a feminine touch to this page. I added English Mustard Nuvo Drops to the centers of the orange flowers for added dimension.

The bright red ‘Smile’ title from the Foam Stickers adds a punch of unexpected color, grabbing your attention. To balance the red, I sprinkled tiny red flowers in each cluster throughout the rest of the layout.

What different color combinations can you come up with using a single collection? At first glance the Simple Stories ‘For the Record’ collection is filled with primary colors, but we were able to create a different look on this layout today by focusing our selections on the softer colors.

Simple Stories: Real Life

Oh, how I miss wandering the aisles of Tuesday Morning! You, too? My oldest daughter worked at Tuesday Morning while she went to college and one day I dropped in on her unexpectedly (she went to school an hour away from home) and took some snapshots of her at work. She may have been a bit embarrassed, but that’s part of being a child of a scrapbooker, right?! *giggle*

REAL LIFE

Our jobs are a huge part of our lives and deserve to have a spot in our scrapbooks. Our work experiences shape us. We gain new knowledge, make new friends, and sometimes learn hard lessons while navigating difficult situations. I have learned so much from every job that I have ever had, and wish I had taken more photos of myself while working at each one.

[Fun fact: when my daughter stopped working at Tuesday Morning they let her keep her t-shirts. She gave me one because she knew it was one of my favorite stores. Yes! I still have it. LOL! It’s a collector’s item now. *wink* Okay, back to the layout.]

I kept my background simple for this layout by using the Navy Color Vibe cardstock with a border of Tomato cardstock. I used an edge distressing tool and black stitching to give it some subtle texture. By keeping your background simple, it will help your photos, patterned paper layers, and other elements to really stand out.

I used one of the cut apart Journal Element Cards as a base for the chipboard title. Details like the hemp twine, colorful trios of enamel dots, and the addition of Nuvo Drops to the centers of the orange flowers make this layout more interesting to look at.

I used another cut apart Journal Element Card for the journaling. I like to print my journaling on thin vellum and adhere it to the card because my handwriting it too big for adding as many details as I would like. Do you have that same problem?

I added more florals, enamel dots, and a chipboard camera to the bottom of the page. The lens of the camera is accented with a few tiny gems from my stash for a bit of shine.

Have you documented your current job or past jobs? What lessons have you learned there? Did you meet lifelong friends, or perhaps it is where you met your your spouse? If you don’t have photos of you at your job, you can always find images online or create a non-photo layout.

Maybe my layout today has given you the goal to visit your teen [or other family member] at their place of employment for a few sneaky snapshots? I can’t wait to see what pages you have in mind.

Hip Kit Club: DONUT Forget This!

Every year when my daughter was little she would ask for kitchen and baking sets for Christmas. She has ALWAYS loved to experiment in the kitchen, and continues right up to this day. Some experiments turn out well, and … others, not so much. LOL! But that’s a part of learning, right?!

Today I’m scrapbooking about Maryn’s first attempt at donuts using the December 2024 Hip Kits, featuring the EXCLUSIVE ‘December Days’ collection. This collection is perfect for your New Year’s and wintertime memories with it’s bright, colors (perfect for combatting those winter blues) and modern icons. I especially love the patterned papers in this collection.

DONUT FORGET THIS

The ‘B Sides’ of the cardstock papers in the Cardstock Kit this month feature the cutest stitched snowflake design. I couldn’t wait to use it as the background for this layout.

I chose complimentary patterned papers to layer up behind my photo, then added floral die-cut accents and a die-cut border (using the Scallop Arch die). The colors are so happy and cheerful! I gave one of the flowers a bit more dimension by adding a dimensional sticker to the center.

I cut around the border of one of the 3×4 cards from the Pocket Life kit and used it as an anchor for my title, journaling, and embellishments. The full page of chipboard kitchen icons are so cute! I grouped several of them across the bottom of the title card.

The Pocket Life cards also make great layers for your projects. I used the midnight floral 3×8 card under the right side of my photo for a punch of contrast.

Simple Stories For the Record: Scrapping Those Selfies

Teens & selfies … they go together like peanut butter & jelly, am I right? Ha! I love when my kids take selfies. It’s the perfect opportunity to get photos of them without having to haggle them to step away from their phones or video games for a smile. (I’m kidding around, … kind of. *wink*)

Today I’m scrapbooking a selfie of my daughter from 2017 (she’s 21 now!) with the ultra-adorable Simple Stories For the Record collection. I hope it gives you some scrappy inspiration today!

CURRENTLY

My daughter took this selfie before heading out to a high school football game with her friends. I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of journaling for this one, so I decided to just have FUN playing with all of the different elements from the For the Record collection.

The words and phrases throughout this collection are very general, perfect for a layout like this. What everyday photos are hiding on your phone or computer that you could scrapbook with this collection?

I stacked up lots of paper layers behind the photos, then used a clipboard die-cut to accent the top. I tied a double-length of hemp twine into a bow to place on top, along with a tiny solid green Decorative Brad.

Single-photo layouts are the perfect opportunity to use the larger die-cuts from a collection. They help to fill the space and also balance out the size of a larger photo. Here I used the typewriter from the Page Pieces pack, layering up ephemera and floral die-cuts behind it.

The foam phrase across the bottom of the typewriter acts as my journaling for this layout. I paired a Foam Sticker phrase with tile letter stickers (Color Vibe Alpha Letter Stickers – Basics) to say ‘Just another day … & another selfie’. *giggle*

The bold patterned paper strips at the bottom of the layout anchor my design and also help to balance the colorful title located at the top of the page.

Sometimes selfies are hard to scrapbook, but with the everyday icons & phrases in the Simple Stories For the Record collection it was easy! I hope you find a random selfie on your phone and give this design a try.
