Hailing from Dartmoor, England, and travelling the Anglo-Celtic isles in a converted motorhome-workshop, I make fine and rugged weavings from largely local wool, evoking the landscapes and folk traditions of the Celtic Crescent. (Check my ‘Tales from the road’ for the latest stories from a far-flung island, remote hillside, soapbox or virtual marketplace.)
In earthenwear plaids, mauds, shawls, capes, scarves, stoles, snugs, snoods, saddlecloths and blankets, I seek to capture the essence of the landscapes and folk traditions of my native Dartmoor, Cornwall, the Highlands, Islands, Brittany and Ireland: the granite, bracken, lichen and hawthorn; native sheep breeds and rural livelihoods; wooded lochs, foggy headlands and Victorian mills; quicksilver light, tweed and fiddles; bushcraft; ancient oak woods; medieval knights, ladies and hounds; castles, crofts and bothies; Celts, bards, gypsies and common folk… The regal, the spartan, the pagan, the peasant, the classical, the contemporary: our ancestry and heritage… They’re rich, these isles!
Shop for a handweaving I’ve already made or begin a consultation for a commission so I can weave our stunning landscape into a blanket or garment for you.

I love this website. Thank you for your beautiful objets d’art, your ethos, your photos and your words.

Aah, thank you Lynn, and to you! I’d be delighted… What a lovely evening we all had at Jo’s party! I’m enjoying weaving songs with her on cello and my guitarist friend too, just starting to get out and about in the folk clubs 🙂 xx

Hi, just found you in my etsy feed. Love your blog. I love it when someone leaves their comfort zone for the real thing. This is what the world needs to encourage others that it´s actually doable.

Thanks so much Bettina, that’s heartwarming to hear! Having left a worthy teaching role in Higher Education, I feel a moral obligation to continue inspiring and empowering, so I’m glad if I can be a source of hope for others 🙂 Keep in touch via Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter or Etsy, and comments always welcome here too… Cheers, Eloïse
