    Yup. It won’t be long before the West Bank annexationists make their move. And Trump will probably recognize that acquisition by force too. And that will threaten the very existence of the Jewish democratic state. With friends like these who needs enemies?

    A "senior official" further hammers down this point, telling reporters on plane back to Israel from DC that Trump's decision sets precedent that green-lights "maintaining territories occupied in a defensive war"

    Trump’s embassy move gave Palestinians justification to reject his peace plan. Now his Golan decision gives Saudi Arabia justification too. If Trump helps get Bibi re-elected his right wing government will also reject it. Seems he’s doing everything to ensure its failure.

    In Riyadh yesterday where message from senior officials on the decision was clear: 1. It's a gift to Bashar, Hizbollah & Iran 2. However much they wished to help the Trump administration's peace proposal, this, coming after Jerusalem decision, makes it impossible

    Trump has not only recognized Israeli sovereignty in Golan. He has proclaimed that country can de jure add territory by conquest "to safeguard its security." Shreds post WWII international legal/political order.

    Israeli lawyers warned against settlements in the territories in 1967 on the grounds of violating international law. Cf. then legal advisor Ted Meron 9/67 opinion. (Meron later served as president of the Int. Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia.). Listen to your lawyer.

    Fascinating article. Israel's lawyers understood that Israel was contravening international law by declaring sovereignty over the Golan. But since Trump doesn't care about that they no longer need to either. The jungle grows back.

    Sorry to disagree Rabbi Rick but Trump did not affirm the strategic importance of the Golan to Israel. He recognized Israel’s ANNEXATION of the Golan. Nobody is suggesting Israel should withdraw from the Golan but Trump’s act is just a gratuitous move to help Bibi get reelected.
