    All in all, it’s clear that Zuckerberg and his cohorts at Facebook aren’t handling our data responsibly. It shouldn’t take an FTC settlement for us to start paying attention to the seriousness of this issue.

    Encryption backdoor demands seem to get vaguer with each iteration. The 1993 Clipper Chip, as bad as it was, was at least a specific proposal with technical properties that could be discussed. Now it's just "you nerds go figure it out, it can't be that hard".

    Useful exercise. When someone talks about putting backdoors in encryption, replace “encryption” with some other random computer thing, like “virtual memory” or “if statements”. It usually makes equal sense.

    What’s buried in here is that publishers across the board are introducing harsher costs to libraries for e-book lending — but this unduly punishes smaller library systems especially.

    Worrying long-term research from - not only have the costs of breaches gone up in the last 12 years but so has the mean time to identify them. Used to take around 163, now it’s 171 days. Containment time is also slower - from 64 to 72 days....

    Yes, looking at images of yourself as an old person is amusing, but FaceApp is yet another case of SaaSS (Service as a Software Substitute) that poses a major privacy threat. Don't use it!
