    Does anyone know of any reference to the 'veil of sovereignty' prior to the post-WWII metaphor of 'piercing the veil of sovereignty'? Or did the veil only become apparent after having been pierced? (📷 Ashley Oubré, The Veil, 2018)

    This is where I’m like “sooooo what exactly is the value of online anonymity?”

    Tahrir Square was the peak of platforms believing that the tools they were making were tools of liberation and would lead to more democracy, more accountability for governments. But then successor governments were more savvy and uses tools to oppress.

    I briefly met several years ago during a reception, which I remember because of how extraordinarily nice she was. But it has been her principled writing over the last couple years that has shown her character. She deserves a louder bullhorn.
