Prisons of Poverty: Uncovering the pre-incarceration incomes of the imprisoned

income report thumbnail Our report finds that incarcerated people are disproportionately shut out of the economy even before they are locked up. Prisons of Poverty provides the pre-incarceration incomes of incarcerated men and women by race and ethnicity and provides comparisons to the incomes of similarly aged non-incarcerated people. The report is the first to provide national data on the pre-incarceration incomes of incarcerated women.
