Walrus (Odobenus rosmarus)

Like an iceberg, you see what appears as a medium sized animal in the ocean, but hidden below the surface is a very large animal that can cause so much damage that the top predator here, the polar bear, will not hunt them. An unexperienced polar bear might try, only to get a valuable lesson to stay away and only try when an injured or very young walrus is separated from the group.

Yet with all this power, these are such gentle beings when in their watery element, as in the sea they are fast and agile opposed to heavy and clumsy on land. The sea is where they feel safe and at home.

This was one of many in a large group that were very curious and inquisitive, and you can see from the short tusks that it is a young individual.
