Big Falls of the West Fork
I went to chase fall color along the West Fork this weekend and caught this scene at the Big Falls.
Fall colors are happening across north Texas. Our first round has passed and round two is taking off. The next two weeks should be good for the red oaks and Japanese maples.

Volcanic Peak in the Texas Night Sky
A nightscape from Big Bend National Park with a volcanic peak in the dark night sky of west Texas. This is one of my favorite parks and favorite places to see truly dark skies.
Sony A7S with Zeiss Loxia 21mm lens.
The Loxia 21 has become my favorite daytime lens for landscapes. It has incredible sharpness and contrast even wide open at f/2.8 As you can see here it also does very well for night too, especially on the A7S. Now ideally you want something faster than f/2.8 at night but the small size and sharpness make up for it. This lens takes a 52mm filter....... yes, its that small!

Storm over the Grand Canyon
Snow and rain fall over the Grand Canyon at sunset. I was at the south rim two weeks ago and was treated to this amazing light show one evening. The setting sun filled the canyon with light and the falling rain and snow turned gold.

Bluebonnets at Sunrise
It is bluebonnet season in Texas and I went down to one of my best sunrise spots near Ennis. There were bluebonnets but they were not as many as I hoped. I did have a few clouds to the east to light up the sky and I was able to get this with some flowers flowing down the hillside.

Bryce Sunrise with A7R and Loxia 21mm
The amazing Bryce Canyon National Park at dawn on a clear day. I spent half the night photographing Milky Way over the canyon in the cold and then stayed for sunrise. Set up my A7R with the Zeiss Loxia 21mm lens for the great sun stars.

Fall Colors in the Great Basin
One from a few weeks ago when I was in Nevada exploring the Great Basin. Here in the Ruby Mountains I found glacial carved valleys, rugged peaks and fall color. A marvelous landscape with dark sky and few visitors. Just the sort of place I like to explore.

Mirror Image
Standing water on the Bonneville Salt Flat made for a great reflection and mirror image last weekend when I was in the Great Basin. West of Salt Lake City one finds the Great Salt Lake which is the remains of a larger ancient Lake Bonneville which covered most of western Utah and into Nevada. Today the western part is dry salt pans. It is where you find the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats where the salt is pure white, flat, and (when dry) hard as concrete. They do land speed test racing here.
I spent the night nearby and was there for this awesome sunrise. There were some pools of water that I was able to set up this reflection.
