As the article says, one of the predictions about #climatechange is that it will change the nature and frequency of extreme climatic events (#hurricanes, #floods, #droughts etc,). So the study seeks to look at the relationship between such events and human well-being in #LatinAmerica. Among other things, the study finds that the lack of #equity, preparation and response have as much or more impact on the human well-being and health as does the event itself. Another key finding is that nations with more investment in #publichealth, such as #Argentina, #Brazil, #Chile, #CostaRica, #Mexico, #Panama and #Paraguay, tend to be more resilient to climate-related catastrophes.

#NAFTA talks are picking up again but a deal is unlikely to be reached this week, increasing the odds the latest deadline will be missed amid Donald #Trump’s threat to freeze #Canada out. The talks could extend into next week, and several deadlines have been missed so far. The #US reached a preliminary deal with #Mexico in August. Barring an accord with Canada, Trump has threatened to proceed with only his southern neighbour.
There have also been numerous calls in the U.S. to include Canada. In a joint letter dated Monday, three major U.S. business groups - the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Business Roundtable and the National Association of Manufacturers - said it would be 'unacceptable to sideline Canada,' the top buyer of U.S. goods. Prominent members of Congress have also said that Canada should be part of any new #NorthAmericanfreetradeagreement.
