Sparked by transformational reform, the #deal market across the #MiddleEast shows signs of picking up following a two-year lull and is expected to create #MnA opportunities across a wide range of sectors. Under #Trump and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the #UnitedStates ( #CFIUS), the attitude to Chinese ownership of US assets has become belligerent. The rejection of the Ant Financial bid for MoneyGram is the most obvious example, but the truth is anything at all involving a remotely sensitive area - data, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, robotics - is now off the table.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the broader Chinese state infrastructure that it speaks for have also changed their position dramatically in recent years. The modern handbook for state-approved outbound acquisition is Made in #China 2025, the strategic plan issued by premier Li Keqiang in May 2015, but only receiving international attention since a China-US trade war became a threat.

#Airbus SE is set to close a deal to take a controlling stake in #Bombardier Inc’s #CSeries jetliner program, effective July 1, in a move expected to kickstart the European planemaker’s ability to put its marketing and cost-cutting muscle into the Canadian plane program. Bombardier agreed in October to sell Airbus a 50.01% stake in its flagship commercial jet for a symbolic Canadian dollar, as the plane program battled sluggish sales and low production, which made it harder to keep a lid on costs. Airbus, by contrast, will be able to offer airlines deals by packaging the CSeries with its own jets and is expected to use its purchasing prowess to drastically cut the price of parts, along with improving efficiencies internally.

#Airbus SE said that its #CSeries partnership with #Bombardier Inc will be effective from July 1, after securing all regulatory approvals. Due to the early-than-expected closing of the deal, Airbus updated terms of the plan. The plane maker said Bombardier will fund the program's cash shortfalls up to a maximum of $225m in H2 of 2018, up to a maximum of $350m in 2019 and to a maximum aggregate of $350m over the following 2 years.

#Qualcomm Inc CEO Steven Mollenkopf said on Thursday (June 7) he hoped an announced agreement between the #UnitedStates and #China on the future of #ZTE Corp will pave the way for China clearing Qualcomm’s acquisition of #NXPSemiconductors NV. Approval of the Qualcomm/ #NXP deal would depend on the progress of broader bilateral talks and the unwinding of a U.S. government ban on sales by U.S. companies to ZTE.

#China is ready to approve #Qualcomm Inc.’s $43bn takeover of #NXPSemiconductors NV if it gets assurances that the #US will lift a 7-year ban on homegrown telecoms giant #ZTE Corp. The antitrust regulator has cleared all factual investigations, is satisfied with the remedies Qualcomm’s offering and only procedural issues remain. China’s review of Qualcomm’s largest-ever acquisition has languished amid an escalating trade fight between the world’s two largest economies, fueling concern that the NXP deal might become a bargaining chip. At the same time, Beijing wants ZTE freed up to buy the U.S. chips and components it needs to make networking gear and smartphones.

Being approached by competitors - or anyone for that matter - is always flattering, but, more importantly, it opens a door for many business owners that they have not considered in the past: selling their business. If you've ever thought about selling your business, you likely thought about selling it to a strategic buyer - a larger company in your industry, a competitor or a business in a neighboring industry that could benefit from something you've built.

While many business owners think that a strategic exit is the most natural or the easiest type of acquisition to complete, the truth is that it often has the lowest chance of success. Most acquisitions occur to financial buyers - acquiring companies who may not have specific industry knowledge, expertise or advantage when buying your business, but like the potential financial return on investment your business provides.
