RhymeSquare Comps

Being fans of Ill Papa Giraffe [Facebook], we were happy to find them on the new sampler from UK independent clothing label RhymeSquare, RhymeSquare: Volume Three, Late Spring. Check all three volumes.

Typical modern hip hop sadly reflects ignorance, negativity, misogyny, and violence. In some shining scenes, however, you find intelligence, positivity, equality, and community -- all vital to early hip hop. This is one of those shining scenes. Hear their messages. Most of the artists on this RhymeSquare compilation are artists to support and celebrate. That says something good about the good people at RhymeSquare, too.

Go on and get yourself some fun music, fun threads, and a cool little bear at RhymeSquare!

Public Enemy And The Impossebulls

From blocSonic netlabel, "Thirteen years ago... The Impossebulls began as a group of international Public Enemy fans joining forces with the Hard Rhymer himself, Mr. Chuck D, fellow PE member Professor Griff and long time PE collaborator Kyle Jason on a song railing against the major music industry entitled 'We Don’t Need You'."

Earlier this month, an anthology of the first ten years of The Impossebulls, Made by History (Decade One: 2000-2010), was released  on blocSonic.
Over the years, they’ve developed a rich body of work that this retrospective does a great job of shining a light on. With blocSonic as a partner to help them get their incredible hip-hop music out to the world, they’re ready to continue to bring you the REAL. Get to know some of what they’ve already done and get ready for what they’re going to do!
... Thank you to Chuck D, without whom the ‘Bulls wouldn’t exist!
Today, Enemy Among Us was released on blocSonic.
In honor of the induction of Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Impossebulls have prepared this special EP release to celebrate the important place that PE holds in the hearts and minds of a whole generation of music fans, musicians and artists. Thank you Public Enemy for continuing to show the way. You’ve remained an important voice of reason in an increasingly mad world.

John Graham's Magic

Respect to John Graham for his thoughtful final release, Magic: Blanc Et Noir. He covers a lot of ground, such as politics, the entertainment industry, ethics, dedication, and family. He shines.

A documentary was produced around the making of the album, Magic: Blanc et Noir (A Visual Mémoire). Graham's company Ego Free Music Group describes the film:

This "Musicmentary" takes you behind the veil and uncovers the many layers of the man behind the music. If you didn't know who John Graham was before seeing this, then you will be properly acquainted after this groundbreaking visual experience.

This audio visual journey directed and edited by Mark AH of Crescendo Productions whisks you through 14 tracks of pure musical wizardry and gives you an insider's viewpoint of the motivations behind every lyric. Coupled with interviews, and performances you'll undoubtedly fall under the spell of the Ego Free Magician himself.
The documentary and the album are available from Ego Free Music Group. The album is also available at Bandcamp and Soundcloud.

Intrigued? Check out the solid album review from Word Is Bond complete with audio samples.

Hoping you will be moved by this album to well-rounded thought and positive action.

Angel Haze, The Good Bad Girl

With the wrap of Angel Haze's UK tour last weekend, it seemed like a good time to promote her free releases. What we didn't know was what a splash our girl made across the ocean.

The BBC named NYC rapper Angel Haze in their top 3 of the Sound of 2013. MTV UK viewer-led search for the very best in new music in 2013 has placed Angel Haze at number 9 among the winners of MTV Brand New for 2013. Way to represent, Angel Haze!

Angel was born Raykeea "Raeen" Wilson in Detroit. She was a shy, poetry writing girl who grew up in a repressive religious home (not unlike recently featured Meg Myers). At 16, she was finally allowed to listen to secular music and began rapping her poems. A wild-child alter ego was born, and now straight-talking rapper Angel Haze is rising to stardom.

Angel Haze - King (2011)
Summer 2011, sincere with some soft edges; 15-track release

"Trendsetting female emcee Angel Haze looks to broaden her ever-growing bandwagon of fans with the release of her new album, Reservation, featuring singles 'New York' and 'Werkin' Girls.' Guest features on Reservation, which is co-executive produced by Haze and Le'roy Benros, are limited to Nicole Wray and Kool A.D., keeping the focus on the bright future of the Native American artist."

Angel Haze - Voice
Spring 2012, includes some rhythm-and-blues selections, 13-track release

Angel Haze - Classick
Winter 2012, highly-polished, Electric Lady Land, 6-track release ... DJ Booth | DatPiff
