NO CHILD FOR SALE PETITION

There are 168 million children in the global workforce today; 85 million work in hazardous conditions. These children are working in a wide range of sectors, primarily in the agriculture and industrial sectors, including manufacturing, construction and mining. This work is harmful for their development and their future, and Canadians may unintentionally be supporting this exploitation through the products we buy in Canada.

A critical step in addressing the worst forms of child labour is to know if any products sold in Canada might involve child labour, particularly hazardous labour. Canadians have made it clear that companies need to make information on their supply chains transparent so that Canadians know if we might be involved in the problem. To achieve this, the Canadian government needs to work with Canadian companies and other organizations to help Canadian consumer’s access information about our products and to address the incidence of hazardous child labour in Canadian product supply chains.

By signing this petition, you are urging the Government of Canada to create legislation requiring large companies who operate in Canada to publically report on their efforts to monitor, address and prevent child labour in their supply chains on a yearly basis.
