Sewing in a Bubble: Bubble Shorts by Do Gincho, a Pattern Tour

Today I’m very happy because is the first time I am a true pattern tester! The pattern that I have the opportunity of testing is the beautiful bubble shorts designed by Marta from the blog Do Guincho. It was very exciting when she asked me to be part of this tour. I am positively impressed because although it is the first PDF pattern she has released, is very well thought out and made in a very professional way.

Hoy estoy super feliz porque es la primera vez que pruebo un patrón verdaderamente! El patrón que me han pedido probar es de los bubble shorts diseñado por Marta que tiene un blog que se llama Do guincho. Este es el primer patron que Marta publica en PDF, pero me ha impactado positivamente que ella lo ha hecho de una manera muy profesional.

Now let me tell you that these shorts are so cute, feminine and comfy. They can be easily made for each season, just change the type of fabric and you are done! I think they are versatile and could be use as part of a posh outfit as well as a sporty one.

Les cuento que estos pantalones cortos son divinos y muy femeninos, también pueden ser usados en diferentes estaciones o climas -en países donde no hay estaciones-, ya que es posible coserlos en diferentes tipos de telas!. Considero que son versátiles porque pueden hacer parte tanto de un atuendo elegante como de uno más informal.

The PDF pattern contains step by step easy to follow instructions , detailed figures and tips that make a very nice experience to sew the shorts. Also there are not so many sheets that you have to glue together!

El documento PDF contiene instrucciones paso a paso muy fáciles de entender, figuras explicativas y consejos que hacen que la experiencia de coser estos pantalones cortos sea muy placentera.

I use the 3T size, the fit is perfect ! plus they have a bit of room for growing into them. I choose to work with a mauve baby corduroy for the exterior and the lining with a soft antistatic taffeta.

Los hice talla 3, le quedaron perfectos y tienen un poco de espacio para que crezcan con ella. Escogí pana delgada para el exterior y para el interior Taffeta.

I can not be more happy with the end result. I would recommend 100% this pattern, and If you would like to make a pair or more for your little one, take advantage that Marta is having a special price during this tour. No puedo estar mas feliz con estos shorts. It is time for the “Flip”- The Alphabet Collection

Today is the day when I show you my version of some of the items of the Alphabet collection that I have made as part of the series “Flip this pattern”. Little Miss VI is a very active girl and although she likes dresses and she often uses them, I think she prefers trousers -and being quite honest me too, because I think they protect her legs when she falls from her scooter-. The collection has four patterns, but I chose to “Flip” the w pants and the Recess raglan tee.

Hoy es el día cuando les muestro mis versiones de los patrones de “The alphabet Collection” para la serie Flip this pattern. La señorita VI es una niña muy activa y, aunque le gustan los vestidos, yo creo que ella prefiere los pantalones -y para ser honesta, yo también, porque le protegen las piernas cada vez que se cae de la patineta- La colección esta formada por cuatro patrones, pero yo escogí 2, w pants y Recess raglan In order to Flip the Recess raglan tee, I made a high neck adding about 8 cms to the neck piece, I sew elastic to the sleeves using the shirring technique. In my point of view that gives a feminine detail to the tee. Also I wanted to try a lovely gold fabric paint I had from years ago, then I made a stencil with freezer paper in the shape of hearts and set my hands to work!

Para cambiar la camiseta, hice el cuello mas alto (adicionándole 8 cm a la pieza), cosí hilo elástico a los lados del cuello y mangas que a mi punto de vista le adiciona un detalle de feminidad a la camiseta. También quería usar una pintura de tela que tenia hace tiempos y decidí pintar unos corazones dorados en el frente.

I used the capri length in size 3T for my Vision of the W Pants. I wanted them to be turn-ups. Also I modified the shape of the front pockets, adding some pleats to give volume to the upper part of the trousers. The fabric I used is a light jean 100% cotton that has a good drape.

Para mi visión de los W pants, usé el patrón de pantalones capri en talla 3T. Quería remangarlos en la parte de abajo de la pierna, le cambié la forma al bolsillo y le adicioné unos prenses que le dan volumen a la parte de arriba del pantalón. Utilicé tela liviana de jean 100% algodón que tiene una muy buena caída.

I think is a perfect outfit for a very active little girl, I’m very pleased with the result and was very nice to work with the patterns. Actually Flip or remix patterns are a difficult task, and for me the most difficult part is to create something wearable. But when you see the end result I can say, mission accomplished! happy that I have made something that will be used a lot or at least until she grows out of it

Creo que es un conjunto perfecto para mi niña deportista, estoy muy contenta con el resultado y fue muy chévere trabajar con los patrones. La verdad es que modificar un patrón es una tarea difícil y para mi, la parte mas difícil es crear algo que pueda ser usado. Pero cuando veo el resultado final, me da alegría y puedo decir que cumplí mi misión y esta ropa que hice especialmente para ella, va a ser usada por mucho tiempo o al menos hasta que le quede chiquita!.

Harem pants + shirt /Pantalones estilo harem + Camisa

Last week I made skinny jeans, this week something more roomy. Today I’m presenting you with not one, but two pairs of harem pants! This project has been in my mind for weeks, since I read this post in the very inspiring blog of Sanae. I remember my comment on the post saying “I will definitely make some for my daughter…although you know, I’m scared of knits…” , well I made them and the knit fabric didn’t bite me! It is actually very nice material to work with.

La semana pasada hice los jeans, esta semana algo menos ajustado. Hoy estoy presentándoles no uno, sino dos pares de pantalones estilo harem. Este proyecto lo he tenido en mente desde que leí este articulo en el blog de Sanae. Recuerdo un comentario que hice en su blog, acerca de hacerle un par de pantalones a Miss VI, pero que me aterraba trabajar con telas strecth. Bueno venci mi temor y la verdad es que quedaron bonitos.

The pattern is “you call it”, -the basic version- made and generously given for free by Venus of Suburbia soup blog. For the first pair I choose a John Kaldor soft jersey knit with an Ikat printed motif that I bough here in my last visit to Birminham.

Este es el patrón que utilice, se puede descargar gratis del blog Suburbia Soup. El primer par lo hice con una tela tejido de punto de John Kaldor con un motivo Ikat impreso que compre aqui en mi ultima visita a Birminham.

The second pair is made with a very small piece of hand dyed batik fabric, that fortunately I pre-washed -yes, I’m totally guilty for no pre-wash the fabric prior making something- because that lovely blue dye runs everywhere.

El segundo par lo hice con un pedacito de tela estilo batik que afortunadamente le di una lavadita antes de coser- si, soy malisima lavando las telas antes de hacer algo con ellas-, porque el azul destiñe bastante.

I choose to make size 2T-3T. I made two changes: shortened the crotch by 2 inches/ 5cms and the length in 2 inches/5cms, but just purely because little miss VI is very good having accidents and falling down, then I though reducing this measurements will help with safety issues when she is walking and running. Plus I only have a tinny bit of the batik fabric.

Escogi hacer la talla 2T-3T, haciendo dos cambios: acorte medida de entrepierna en 5 cms y el largo total del pantalon en 5 cms, pero solo porque la señorita VI es muy buena cayéndose, entonces reduciendo estas medidas me siento mas tranquila porque no se va a enredar en los pantalones cuando este corriendo o caminando.Oh boy, Let me tell you this pattern is so easy to sew -even with knits!-, and i just love the result, they are very comfy pants and I’m hoping for them to last until next summer, well probably with a little bit shorter look but still valid for hot weather.

Este patrón es muy fácil de coser, inclusive con telas stretch, además me encanta el resultado. Espero que le duren hasta el próximo verano, aunque posiblemente le queden cortos, pero de todas formas sirven para cuando el clima vuelva a calentar en estas latitudes.

Oh, I almost forgot, the shirt!. I made it time ago using as a base the geranium dress pattern by Rae Hoekstra making it A-line shape and the closure is just buton in the back. As a little detail I did add a small patch pocket at the front.

Casi se me olvida, la camisa es hecha basándome en este patrón de Rae Hoekstra, solamente que lo hice en forma de A y le adicione una abotonadura de un botón en la espalda. También, le añadí un bolsillo estilo parche al frente.

Small Fry Skinny Jeans: Finished!/Terminados!

Little Miss VI is almost tree years old, but she is very slim, in fact when Laura published the measurements for the size 2 of the pattern, I knew It will be perfect to make them for her. As I told you yesterday I decide to sew along with her and here they are!

Miss VI tiene casi tres años pero es delgada. Cuando lei las instrucciones y medidas del patrón de Laura, supe que le iban a quedar perfectos. Como les dije ayer, decidí seguir los pasos que ella publico en su blog Crafstorming y aquí están.

Still some room to grown into them, check the length / creo que le van a quedar buenos por algun tiempo

The Small Fry Skinny Jeans pattern presents fantastic features like a classic fit, front patch pockets, back yokes and pockets plus half fly. I found the instructions clear and every step is documented with photographs making it very friendly to use even for beginners. It was my first time making a yoke, stitching in the ditch or constructing a fly, and she directed me perfectly up to the final stitch. I love the pockets, the contrasting topstitching -which I have improve, since my last attempt- and in general the overall look, it is a very nice pair of skinny jeans.

El patrón tiene unos detalles que son fantásticos, como los bolsillos delanteros, la pieza en forma de “v” y bolsillos en la parte trasera, ademas del tipo de abotonadura. Me parece que las instrucciones son claras y cada paso esta documentado con fotografías, lo cual hace que sea fácil de seguir, inclusive para principiantes. Para mi era la primera vez que utilizaba ciertas técnicas -tales como la construcción de la abotonadura y me ha resultado facilisimo de seguir. Me encantan los bolsillos, las costuras con hilo contrastante…mejor dicho toditos ellos son lindos.

Details/Detalles: 1- Half fly /apertura a medias. 2- Belt loops/espacio para el cinturón. 3-Front pocket/bolsillo delantero. 4- back yoke/pieza en forma de V en la parte trasera. 5- Adjustable waist band/ cintura ajustable.6- Patch back pocket/bolsillo en la parte te atrás

The fabric I used is cotton with a small percentage of elastane, the weight is similar to quilting cotton, one of the fabrics the patterns calls, but with a little bit of stretch. I would totally use it again and I already have thought about some details I would like to add, like some zips in the lower part of the leg.

Utilice una tela de algodón con algo de elastane. Yo voy a volver a usar este patrón y hasta he pensado en que me gustaría añadirle algunos detalles, como por ejemplo cremalleras en la parte de abajo.

In conclusion, It was a fantastic sew along, this is an excellent pattern, perfectly drafted. I’m happy with the result and little miss VI seems to be enjoying them.

En conclusión, Estuvo super chévere coser estos pantalones. Este es un patrón muy bien realizado y perfectamente explicado. Estoy contenta con el resultado y Miss VI los esta disfrutando.

So the small skinny jeans sew along: how are we doing? /Como vamos con la costura de los jeans?

Who doesn’t like a very good pair of skinny jeans?, well at the moment I’m making a pair for little miss VI following the sew along hosted by Laura. She is giving for free the pattern size 2T and detailed instructions for the construction of the garment. Also at the end she will chose the pair that makes her heart beat and that person will receive the full version of the pattern, how generous is that?

Ok, today is day 4 and I wanted to show my progress. I have manage to be at her pace, although I had some issues with my new serger and I manage to tangle myself in the step to sew the fly just because I’m sewing for a girl. Don’t worry nothing that a coffee didn’t sort out.

A quien no le gusta un par de jeans bien hechos? Bueno en este momento estoy haciéndole un par a miss VI siguiendo las instrucciones de Laura en su blog. Ella regala el patrón en talla 2, ademas de dar instrucciones detalladas de como armar los pantalones. También al final, escogerá el par que mas le guste y a esa persona le va a regalar el patrón completo, que generosa, cierto? Ok, hoy es el dia 4 y quise publicar mis avances!. Vamos bien y aunque tuve mis percances con la remalladora nueva y tuve confusiones con el cierre (porque estoy cosiendo para niña), todo va perfectamente.

Today I would like to remark about those marvellous places where one can be immerse for hours -even with a 3 year old wanting to go to the toilet every 5 minutes-. To me, fabric shops are an amazing source of inspiration and I mean, I know you can buy on-line, but nothing compared with the sensation of touching and see the colours in person.

Among my favourites are this one in Devon, this one near Birmingham -owned by the lovely Lauren who was second place on the British sewing bee Tv contest- and a little bit more local to me, this one in Leigh on sea, and lately I can’t stop myself going to this one, also en Leigh on sea, because the nice lady who owns it carry the most amazing stock of buttons and vintage zips.

Do you preffer to buy online or go to the shop?

Hoy quiero escribir acerca de estos lugares maravillosos donde puedo gastar horas y horas -inclusive con miss VI queriendo ir al baño cada 5 minutos- Las tiendas que venden telas son lugares repletos de inspiración, y, aunque hoy en dia se pueda comprar en linea, no existe nada como tocar y ver el color/textura de las telas en persona. Entre mis tiendas favoritas están esta localizada en Devon, esta cerca a Birminham. Un poco mas cerca esta en Leigh on sea; y últimamente no salgo de esta, porque tiene un stock de botones y cremalleras que ustedes no se imaginan, de lujo!.
