Years of Development
Microsoft Edge has been in the development since December 2014. It was initially called Project Spartan while keeping it separate from Internet Explorer 11. The first public appearance of Project Spartan was on March 30, 2015, for the Windows 10 Insider Program. Internet Explorer will be discontinued in exchange of Project Spartan, but it still is maintained since it is still part of Windows 10. The new web browser was eventually named Microsoft Edge on April 29, 2015, and its mobile version was eventually released for Microsoft mobile devices.
