Nagehan Ilemin Alan, who is currently in residence at Wake Forest Law as a Visiting International Researcher (VIR), was invited by her host institution, Kocaeli University, to speak as a panelist. Nagehan served as a panelist via Zoom and presented her research on climate change and human rights in Turkey.
"Climate change, a complex and global problem, is a result of human activities, but we also bear the consequences," says Nagehan. "As a result, individuals invoke many arguments in front of the courts, including human rights violations. Case law has expanded all around the world, and the European Court of Human Rights has delivered three climate change cases this year. Thus, I presented the case law regarding climate change in light of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights for Human Rights Day."
Congratulations on this professional accomplishment, Nagehan!

Meet Isbel Cruz-Chaudhry, cataloging and collections manager in the Wake Forest Law Library! Isbel earned her bachelor of arts degree from @uflorida and her master of arts degrees from @UofMichigan and @BostonU (she also earned a Boston Theological Interreligious certificate while attending Boston University). Isbel also has a master of library sciences degree from @nccueagle and participated in a liberal studies program at @wfuniversity. She has worked in the Wake Forest Law Library since 2006.
“I take pride in managing our library`s physical collections and maintaining the integrity of our catalog," says Isbel. "I enjoy putting the principles of librarianship into action each day, as our patrons access information through dedicated and shared resources, turning knowledge into social action. I have to admit, I miss the physical processing of government publications that gave me a courtside view of our government in action, but aspects of that work continues as these GPO materials are now all electronically organized and accessible. Overall, I consider myself fortunate to work with colleagues who feel like family, after almost 20 years of service at Wake Forest Law Library!”
Thank you for all you do, Isbel!

Thank you for all you do, Gina!
Earlier this month, current and former Wake Forest Environmental Law students, including Sea Grant Law Fellows Kaitlin Beckom (3L) and Emily Mahon (2L), attended the Shape of the Coast Legal Symposium and Coastal Conference in New Bern, NC.
The North Carolina Sea Grant conference brings together participants and potential collaborators (including Wake Forest Law faculty, students, and alums!) dedicated to the prosperity of North Carolina`s coastal communities, environments, and economies.
The Conference included panel discussions, sessions on hot topics in coastal law, and presentations on strategies for preserving coastal economies and ecosystems.
Former Heirs` Property Co-Lead Professor Jesse Williams served as a panelist on a discussion about Heirs` Property on the Coast, moderated by Professor and Environmental Law & Policy Clinic Director Scott Schang.
Wake Forest Law alum Samantha Hamilton (JD `22, MA `22) spoke about wetlands on the coast, moderated by alum Amy Wang (JD `96) (Amy also served as a conference organizer). The Conference was also attended by Marley Petersen (JD `24) and Cooper Kohnstam (3L).
