The banner

This is a slightly edited repeat of one of the earliest posts of my blog, which describes the various images in the banner. I decided it deserved its own page.

The five details were created by some of my absolutely favourite designers. There are several others too, and it was hard to choose. Ultimately, the choice was dictated by the attempt to create a pleasant composition.

1. The spot

Catherine Agnes (Indigo Rose)

Catherine Agnes (Indigo Rose)

The motif on the far left is one of my favourite spots from possibly my all-round favourite sampler, Catherine Agnes, by Indigo Rose. By “favourite sampler” I mean two things. Firstly, I consider it to be really, really beautiful: elegant, well-balanced, and stitched with an incredible mixture of 8 yummy Caron Waterlilies. Secondly, it was huge fun: lots of different stitches, each spot was like a miniature little project in itself, and it worked up very quickly. My only bad moment was with the bullion knots, but hey, you can’t have everything…

2. The pocket

Accessories, back

The little pocket is from a Brightneedle cyber-class project called Dreamkeeper Etui. Like most other BN projects, the cross-stitching is done over a single linen thread. I have two other BN class projects, older ones, which are still half-stitched, and hopefully they will appear on the blog in a not-too-distant future.

3. The hearts

Bead Blanket Sampler (Indigo Rose)

The strip with the hearts is also from an Indigo Rose project, Bead Blanket Sampler. I took this as a cyber-class several years ago, but it’s now available as a chart.

4. The sunflowers

Random Thoughts (The Drawn Thread)

The sunflower strip is from Random Thoughts by The Drawn Thread – another fun project with lots of instant gratification as you complete the various motifs.

5. The cherry blossoms

Japanese Octagon Box (Chatelaine)

Finally, the vignette with the cherry blossoms is one side of the scissor fob in Japanese Octagon Box, a lovely collaboration project between designer Martina Weber of Châtelaine Designs and designer/finisher Judy Odell of Just a Thought. The picture shows the main part of the project, which is meant to wrap around the sides of a tall 8-sided box. I completed the stitching last year, but still haven’t started the assembly (for reasons beyond my control, which are best left unsaid!) – that is something for the to-do list. For the fob, Martina just instructed us to stitch the frame and fill it with whatever element we liked from the rest of the pieces, so the choice of the cherry blossoms is my very own.

For your information, I am fluent in Italian, English, and Dutch. I'm not too bad at reading (but very bad at writing) French, so comments in that language are also very welcome. I can manage a little Spanish too. Any other language - well, I can always try...
