Sarkozy may stand trial over campaign funding

French prosecutors decided Monday that former president Nicolas Sarkozy should stand trial over allegations that his failed 2012 campaign bid received illegal funding, AFP agency has learned. Sarkozy, who is running to be the centre-right candidate for next year's presidential election, had been under formal investigations for attempting to pass off some €18 million of the campaign funds as expenses.
