Premise[edit]

A young girl named Mija risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend — a massive animal named Okja. Director Bong Joon-ho has called Okja "a very shy and introverted animal. It’s a unique animal that we’ve not seen before.”[1]

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

Bong Joon-ho's next movie will be the multilingual monster movie Okja, which is expected to feature a Korean female lead and a cast of English-speaking supporting actors, whose scenes will be set in New York. [2] On November 10, 2015 it was picked up by Netflix and Plan B Entertainment with a budget of $50 million with a production start in late 2016 for release in 2017.[3] Darius Khondji joined the film as cinematographer in February 2016.[4] In March 2016 it was announced that Lily Collins had joined the cast in one of the lead roles.[5]

Principal photography began on April 22, 2016 in Seoul, South Korea.[6][7] It moved to Vancouver, Canada for more filming on July 31, 2016.[8]
