With demand tripling since the pandemic, the center has become a lifeline for families, seniors, and individuals across the region.

Cornell students and faculty, supported by the Einhorn Center, are helping Director Jean Owens bring her vision of a larger, safer facility to life. Among them is Courtney Braun, a Master of Public Administration student at the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy @cornellbpp , who’s assisting with fundraising and coordinating this impactful collaboration.

Together, they’re working to create a space that will not only provide food but also empower the community through resources like gardens, nutrition classes, and more.

Ithaca’s Southside neighborhood is one of three communities partnering with @cornelluniversity researchers and students to create “resilience hubs” – existing facilities that support communities during disasters and crises caused by climate change, pandemics and other emergencies – and also create a replicable playbook for other New York state neighborhoods to follow.

In recognition of her work with Southside Community Center and her dedication to community-engaged learning, Rebecca Morgenstern Brenner received our Kaplan Family Distinguished Faculty Fellowship in 2024.
