The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association, represented by DREDF, has negotiated an agreement with the California Lawyers Association (CLA) under which CLA will increase the accessibility of its educational programs and events.

STANTON, CA – DREDF and the ELDR Center filed a complaint against Park Stanton Place Apartments for their failure to accommodate a prospective tenant with disabilities, leaving her unhoused.
Tell Attorney General Bonta by February 5, 2024, that remote participation is a reasonable accommodation – AND that people with disabilities who need to participate remotely should not be subjected to burdensome requirements.
People with disabilities cannot be fully included in healthcare equity and equality work without being recognized and counted demographically.

Landlords use pet screening companies to ensure that tenants’ pets are well-behaved, healthy, and well-cared for. However, assistance animals used by people with disabilities are not considered “pets.” Landlords cannot require disabled people to complete pet screening procedures to live with an assistance animal.

Discrimination against Section 8 participants, which disproportionately impacts people with disabilities, is often rooted in misunderstandings and stereotypes.

Historic properties and places of public accommodation built before the ADA was enacted are not exempt from accessibility requirements.
